I couldn't find a forum for 2025 entry for the creative writing MSt at Oxford, so I thought I'd make one! Has anyone heard anything back yet?

I submitted the 27th! I did an extract from a fiction novel (fantasy), with a little summary of the plot to provide context. What about you?

Oh that’s amazing is it published by any chance? I did a sample of 10 short nature poems, all in free verse. About five from my poetry book and five most recent ones and a preface for clarity. I’m so eager to hear back😭

Hi all! Submitted for the Jan. deadline too and haven't heard anything yet. Love that there is a thread here to chat about the process.

It hasn't been published yet! I personally found the 2k word limit really restrictive; it felt hard to get across who I was as a writer in such short space, especially for prose. But oh well, we'll see!

I know what you mean! Even though I feel the point is to get things across instantly, my preface for example felt awkward as it’s something you just want to talk about so much - as there is literally so much to talk about! All should be okay though, as you seem confident in what you produce and as a writer as a whole

Hey! I submitted a slipstream short story. I typically write longer prose but thought that a short story might be a better fit with the word count limit. But I guess we'll see haha

Yeah I think that would be the best option - good luck - have you heard anything back yet?

Haha, no news is definitely good news! I think I remember on the website it said interviews were late feb/early march -- so there's still time. I've only applied for the MSt, what about you?

🤞🏻- I applied for both, as I wanted a safety net. I have applied for other MAs elsewhere durham, manchester, sheffield and east anglia but I’m so set on Oxford that I’d rather do 4 years there than 1/2 years at somewhere I’d half want to go. I averaged only 62% in my second year due to a bad module bringing down my average, but I’m on track for a high 2:1 or possibly a first

The response email mentioned the application outcome would take 8-10 weeks. I'm assuming it will be a while before the acceptance/rejection email then?

Hey, 👋

I just wanted to say good luck on your applications! They all sound like great options!

I completed my MA in English Literature at the University of Sheffield and I did the two creative writing poetry modules, so if you had any questions about them I'd be more than happy to answer them. I also know a few people who stayed on to do their PhD in Creative Writing and they are loving it so far! ✍️

I loved creative writing at The University of Sheffield and the module leader is great, very supportive and so friendly.

Was there anything in particular about the Creative Writing module at Sheffield that stuck out to you?

I hope you find out soon enough about your applications and good luck again! ☺️

Warm wishes,

Phoebe 🙂

Hi all! I also submitted for the January deadline and have not heard back yet, though I think it’s still too early. I saw last year some had interview emails around 2/14 so fingers crossed.

I submitted a short fiction piece. I also thought the 2K word limit was a little odd? The other MFA programs I applied to asked for 25-30 pages.

What grades are everyone applying with??

That’s really great! I hope your PhD is going well for you!

What really drew me to sheffield was that, well, one, I live here hahah. And two, I think it’s the option to specialise in solely poetry as it’s my hyper fixation!

Feel free to share your thoughts & thank you for your kind and helpful words. You seem really kind and intellectually stimulating
