a level choice…

I’m planning on become a lawyer (corporate) but the subjects I really want for a level don’t fit

I love science sm and I really want to do physics and chemistry for a level but it really doesn’t go with what I want to be, if I do go with sciences my a levels would be physics, chem, and philosophy & ethics

and I don’t think that’s a good combo lols

Should I go for it or nah ?

If you're planning on applying to a law degree, they don't require any specific A-levels. Some unis may ask for atleast one essay subject, but as you're taking philosophy and ethics, you'll meet that requirement. You'll be fine with your A-levels. Hope that helped.

I think this is good. Law has no specific subject requirements. And, when they do it’s usually just an essay based subject, which you’d be covered for by philosophy.

Plus, if you changed your mind about law, you’d have other options with physics and maths, alongside Philosophy. So, you’re all good.

Hey @ahahahhs,

Following on from the advice given above, I know lots of people who chose primarily STEM-based A-Levels and then went on to study law at university. As mentioned, law doesn't require any particular subjects; as long as you believe you can achieve a good grade in Physics and Chemistry, there's no reason not to choose that particular combination.

Best of luck!

I know someone who does physics, maths and philosophy and ethics and she loves it! Apparently it’s so nice having a variety of subjects.

I know several successful highly paid lawyers who studied things like politics, art and music at uni. They just converted to law after their studies, which is a pretty common pathway.

If you want to study law at uni perhaps you might want an essay-based subject in there. Philosophy & Ethics would be fine on that front. You can do Physics and Chem as the others, no problem.

The bigger question is why do you wish to be a corporate lawyer? What do you think that work involves?

Maybe have a look at this thread -

For law you dont usually need any specific subjects to do it. An essay subject might help though (but if you are going to do philosophy and ethics then that covers that anyway).
Hello there!

If you’re planning to become a corporate lawyer, your A-Level choices could support your analytical, critical thinking, and writing skills, which could be essential in law. While Physics and Chemistry are great for problem-solving and logical reasoning, they don’t directly align with a law degree or corporate law career. However, Philosophy & Ethics is a solid choice as it develops argumentation, critical analysis, and ethical reasoning, which are highly relevant to law.

Pros:

Sciences demonstrate logical reasoning and analytical skills, which can be useful in law.

If you genuinely love science, you’ll likely perform better and enjoy studying.

Cons:

Physics + Chemistry + Philosophy & Ethics doesn’t provide much essay-writing practice, which could be essential for a law degree.

Law schools don’t require specific A-Levels, but many applicants have subjects like History, English Literature, Politics, or Economics, which develop writing, argumentation, and legal thinking.

If you want to combine science with law, consider:

Physics, Chemistry, and an essay-based subject (e.g., History, English Lit, Politics, Economics, or Philosophy & Ethics).

This balances your interests while keeping law a strong possibility.

Physics, Maths, and Philosophy & Ethics

Law-related A-Levels (History, Economics, Politics, English Lit) + one science

If you want a stronger law foundation while still studying a subject you love.

If you’re passionate about science, you should study what you enjoy, but it’s important to keep law in mind by including at least one essay-based subject. If you’re unsure, you could start with Physics, Chemistry, and Philosophy & Ethics, then reassess after a few months whether this combination feels right for your long-term goals.

I hope this helps!

Good luck!
