Judicial Assistant Court of Appeal 2025

Does anyone have any tips for applying for the JA role? Deadline is 19th Feb and I want to get a solid application in. I applied last year and did not get offered an interview, but they do not offer feedback so I’m not sure why. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not received any follow up either, does anyone know whether these interviews are usually held in-person or online?

In person, with a written test to be taken immediately before the interview (usually with one of the Lord or Lady Justices and someone in an administrative role

Thank you! Going to be a bit tricky since I am due to be out of the country around similar dates but I'll have to try shuffle some things about.

It sounds like you've got past experience with the procedure - if you don't mind me asking, do they expect knowledge of certain substantive laws in either the written test or interview? Or, in the case of the written test, do they give you a set of texts to analyze?

from memory, it is a completely fictional piece of legislation (i.e. only a couple of provisions) which we provide advice on

Thanks! Do you know if the judge interviewing someone is also the judge interested in hiring that person? Or is the interviewing judge not necessarily the judge that is interested in hiring a specific candidate?

I am not actually sure - for reference it was Lord Justice Bean interviewing me, and I am predominantly interested in commercial law

Hi! I see you have had experience with the process - just wanted to ask if you can/are expected/need to take notes for the case looked at in advance into the interview?

Hi all - I hope your interviews went well. In the rush of finishing my interview I have forgotten the date/ week we should hear back - can anyone enlighten me please!

I was told "sometime the week before Easter" - so sometime next week, hopefully:smile:

I got an interview for the CoA but was rejected at the paper sift for HC - does anyone know if we were allowed to apply for both... (I haven't found anything online)? - it seems a bit strange to be this way around...

You are allowed to apply for both. The HC however does have fewer positions, and I'm pretty sure they look for slightly different things (e.g. more of an emphasis on practical experience and qualification)

I see we got the jumpscare of two emails from the MoJ this morning - when do you think they will send out the actual results? the emails said we should hear back shortly, which I'm hoping means "later today"

Congratulations to anyone who got an offer! I've been put on the reserve list; does anyone know what this means in practice (i.e. is it a wooden spoon or is there any likelihood of a substantive offer?). Thanks so much.
