Hi, I am in the final year of my course.

My course is originally a 3 year course, however I had to repeat second year of the course, which I was fully funded for.

I am in final year, and due to very bad mental health, I am looking to defer the year and come back in September 2025 to complete my final year.

I’m very worried about funding. Do you know if I will receive the full tuition fees and maintenance loans funding? And do you know what I would have to do to get this?

You need a letter from a professional stating that your mental illness has impacted your studies this year meaning that you have to suspend and repeat the year. You then submit that with your application for funding next year in order to apply for Compelling Personal Reasons to increase your eligibility.

Thankyou for the reply. Is it true that I will get the maintenance loan, but that it’s the tuition fee loan that I will have to do the compelling personal reasons form for?

Because a few people that I know who have for example changed courses after being on the previous course for 2 years, they ended up getting the maintenance loan but not the tuition fee loan?

Also, in terms of my funding, as I have already received 2 maintenance loan payments this year, however I am interrupting my studies before the third maintenance loan payment, will this affect my maintenance loan payments that will be given to me in September 2025 when I return?

Or will I still get the full maintenance loan for when I return?

Hi Amara,

The maintenance loan is still awarded to you - the tuition fees would be available if you have CPR evidence (if this is your second repeat). Thanks, Jason
