International Short Programmes for Muslims (specifically girls)

I’ve been wanting to volunteer abroad for a really long time and I’m at my last year at university so it’s my final chance to join ISP. I’m quite nervous because I’ll be doing it solo. I’ve looked through and noticed I rarely see ethnic people on these programmes, specifically brown/muslim girls. If you have participated in any, what was it like? Where did you go? Did you enjoy it? Also if anyone in general has any advice for me would be great! I’m thinking of doing the Travelteer Sri Lanka programme. I’m super nervous but I don’t want to miss this opportunity - tho I’m really nervous about the lifestyle aspect: sharing rooms, praying, food, etc. Thanks!

Hello. I am a Muslim and I was also curious about some of the Travelteer trips. I was interested in volunteering in Morocco but was worried about going because most of the photos didn't have any ethnic people in them. I was looking for other ethnic/muslim people's experiences too but couldn't really find anything. ☹️

Me too! I decided not to take part in them because some stuff came up. However, I did apply to Sri Lanka and I was accepted to their programme and I was planning on going. I only ever saw a photo of one hijabi - I now feel like a lot of them probably decline photos maybe that’s why you don’t see any, so don’t let that dishearten you. I also asked the coordinator of the programme about this and he said they get people from all sorts of backgrounds and ethnicities.
