Mature Student - CMI Qualifications

Having a tough time getting in to Adult Nursing - I’ve got a GNVQ distinction in 1998, and an a-level but GNVQ’/s don’t seem to be accepted anymore! Also have CMi management courses level five with 67 credits and level seven with 39 credits - has anyone got these qualifications and got in to uni to do an adult nursing degree? Also if not how did you get there? Thanks

Hi
I am a mature student just about to complete Adult Nursing degree. Some unis are quite good at accepting alternative qualifications or relevant experience? I did an Access to Healthcare professions course at my local college which was part time for a year before applying for uni. Completion of that course was accepted as equivalent to 3 A levels. The fact you already have some qualifications at level 5 and 7 I think it is definitely worth asking if they would accept? Good Luck!

Hi,

Not nursing but paramedicine, I had to show evidence of education within the last 5 years, however I didn't actually have the relevant qualifications anyway so this didn't make a difference for me. I completed an Access to HE in paramedicine online (They'll be specific one for nursing or general healthcare i'm sure).

Whilst it did seem a pain to complete something that can can take up to a year to do before the degree, it set me up surprisingly well for university in terms of anatomy & physiology, as well as essay writing. Would recommend, especially if you've been out of education for a while prior to this.

Hope this somewhat helps.

Hi,
Again not nursing but I have applied for midwifery and found like sjp33 that most universities I was interested in applying to wanted evidence of recent study within the last 5 years and a relevant subject at A-level standard. I have a master’s in an arts subject but because my A-levels were also arts based, I needed to do an Access course. I am also doing one through a local college and mine is specifically in midwifery. I have been made contextual offers when applying (some slightly lower than the tariff) but all subject to me completing the Access course. Lots of info here about Access courses and providers: https://www.accesstohe.ac.uk/
Good luck!
