MSc in Computer Science & AI to Complement a 3D Animation Background

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some guidance on selecting an MSc in Computer Science, ideally with a strong focus on Artificial Intelligence, that aligns with my background and professional goals. Here’s a brief overview of my situation and experience:

Education: I hold a 2:1 BA (Hons) in 3D Digital Animation from the University of Hertfordshire.

Professional Experience: I’ve been running my own animation business for 10 years, primarily creating high-end advertising content.

Technical Skills:

I use SideFX Houdini extensively for 3D. https://www.sidefx.com/

I have some Python experience in both Houdini and Nuke.

I’m also proficient in web development and WebGL.

Goal: I’d like to enhance my 3D skill set and broaden my technical foundation by pursuing a Master’s in Computer Science with an emphasis on AI. Pipeline work along with using AI with Houdini

I’ve come across this online MSc in Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence from City, University of London but found limited information on the teaching staff or graduate outcomes.

https://technology.online.city.ac.uk/msc-computer-science-with-artificial-intelligence/

Key Considerations:

1.

Flexibility: As I’m currently running my own business / having a 16-month-old son, I’m looking for an online or blended (online + in-person) program that I could manage alongside work/family.

2.

Course Content & Outcomes: I want a program that complements my 3D animation and helps me integrate AI into my existing workflow.

It’s been 13 years since I completed my undergraduate degree, so I’m not entirely sure how these programs are structured nowadays. Any advice, experiences, or recommendations on suitable courses (online or part-time) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

Your background uniquely positions you to leverage AI in 3D animation. Given your need for flexibility, City, University of London’s MSc in Computer Science with AI is worth considering. The University of Bath’s online MSc in Computer Science (AI pathway) offers strong industry relevance, while the University of York’s MSc in Computer Science with AI provides accessibility for non-CS graduates. Edinburgh Napier University’s MSc in AI & Data Science focuses on AI applications in creative fields, aligning well with Houdini and Nuke.
For deeper AI integration, exploring SideFX Labs' Machine Learning tools and Deep Learning AI’s Generative Models course could be beneficial. Engaging with AIArtists.org or Houdini’s Machine Learning forums may also provide valuable insights. The University of Bath and York stand out as strong choices, and reaching out to program coordinators can clarify how their AI modules align with your goals.
