Where can i get in with ABC a levels?

I'm an international student, with IAL grades of A in Law, B in Buisiness and C in Economics. I want to study Politics and IR, I've already applied to my five ucas choices, where ive only heard back from QMUL and City, University of London with both of them rejecting me for insufficient academic prowess. What can I do now? Which unis should i apply to in clearing and ucas extras as I want to know what would be realistic for me to get in and with what I have what would be the best possible place to study? My other choices were Cardiff(where I do meet the requirements), SOAS(high end but I tried) and Brunel as a safety. What can I do now?

What would you do if you get an offer from Cardiff? Soas? Brunel?

I would definitely go for Cardiff or SOAS. Brunel is like the last option.
If you get no offers at all, there will be Politics courses available in Extra and eventually in Clearing so don't despair.

Hi there,

We offer a course in Politics an International Relations and its very popular amongst our current students.

We are a small university in a leafy suburb in Liverpool and about 20 minutes away from the city center so you can experience the best of both worlds.

I will leave a link about our course here for you to read through should you be interested. Also will tag our Student Ambassador @Harry LHU who has studied the course and can tell you about it!

I hope this helps,
Daisy- Graduate Advocate🙂
Try York, I got in to study biology through clearing with ABC 😊

Hey @rayanrahmanx,

Choosing Politics & International Relations at Liverpool Hope University for my undergraduate is one of the better choices I've made in life, and has done a lot to help inspire me to study further in academia through a postgraduate degree here doing the same course but for MA level. It has also set me up well to get work experience both directly related to the degree and more broadly through both voluntary opportunities, those on and outside the courses, as well as employment within the universities with a range of part-time, flexible and termly jobs!

On the course itself, you'll learn about everything from the highs and lows of UK politics and foreign policy, US scandal and politics, Politics & International Relations theories and concepts, the ins and outs of the EU! That is just touching on the top of the iceberg that is offered in the degree. All are taught by experts in their respective fields and every lecturer on the course is engaging and available to reach out to if you need that extra bit of support, advice and academic counsel - you actually get to know and build a rapport with those who teach you here, which I think is really important and helpful.

Furthermore, I decided this year to get involved with Global Hope, a international opportunity where I'll be volunteering in India this Easter! The university more broadly, not just the course, offers a lot that really speaks to the nature of being not just a university for Liverpool, but for the world, with a welcoming and friendly international department.

If you have any more questions, please let me know and I'll be happy to help

All the best wishes,

Harry

Hi @rayanrahmanx,

I hope you are well.

Don't be too disheartened by the rejections, hopefully, your other applications will do well (fingers crossed 🤞). Just remember that applications are considered holistically so your personal statement and the reasons and passion you have for the course you have applied to study are also considered. As well as mitigating circumstances.

If these are your predicted grades, then focus on getting the best grades possible in your exams. If those are your final results, wait until the final universities' responses. Then you can consider clearing, further details about that are at the bottom of this page: https://qualifications.pearson.com/en/support/support-topics/results-certification/understanding-marks-and-grades/understanding-your-results-information-for-students/edexcel-international-advanced-level-results-explained.html#:~:text=Clearing%20is%20a%20UCAS%20service,get%20the%20grades%20you%20needed.

During Clearing, universities might accept students that are a grade or two below their requirements, so it would be a good idea if you made a list of universities (that you would be interested in attending) that you will call once clearing opens.

I hope this helps, and I wish you all the best 🙂

Hi @rayanrahmanx,

I'm going to sell York St John a bit here for you as I am currently a Politics student in my third year.

As @SOAS Rep Marjaan mentioned, your application does depend on your personal statement as well as your grades. What I would say though is that having Law, Business and Economics as your A levels will help a lot. For politics in general, a lot of areas are typically covered with these topics in mind.

In terms of clearing don't worry about that too much yet, wait for your offers first and then make a game plan from there, you may find you might be surprised with the offers you get when you get them back. If you still feel unsure, that's when you can start looking elsewhere. Clearing is more of a thing that typically opens when the UK A level students finish their exams as well which isn't long before when university starts. Therefore, if you want more time to prepare before heading to university, I would contact the Universities' admissions teams that you're interested in beforehand than worrying about clearing. If it does come to that though, it's just a matter of research of what universities would accept you and what you can get the most of your time at uni.

For example, YSJ offer a range of different politics courses that accept UCAS points so you would meet the entry requirements and we do have really good structures in place for international students as well.

If you are interested, I can give more of an insight for YSJ politics courses, otherwise, I am more than happy to help in any way possible.
