What should i know about A level psychology?

Hello everyone,

A quick overview, I've completed level 3 in electrical installations (worth 32 UCAS points), I'm looking to try and take an A level exam in psychology.

Instead of going to College and studying at a college, I want to self teach and learn for the A level psychology exam. I'd like to know more in-depth about the course and what to expect. I've also got a few questions to ask.

-What are the best study materials? What books should i get?
-Are there any assignments that I'll have to do for the exam?
-How many exams would i need to take?
-Which exam board should i be sitting with?
-Is it possible to study for A level psychology exam in a year?

If there's anything else i need to know please let me know.

Many thanks.

Hello, I study A-Level Psychology (AQA) right now so I'll try to answer some of your questions

Personally, I use YouTube videos rather than textbooks so I can't give advice books. In terms of YouTube channels, PsychBoost and Bear it in Mind are my go-to for when I need to go over content.

I can't comment for other exam boards, but I do AQA and it's all exam based. We have 3 papers to sit for psychology, however this may differ for other exam boards. I can't give a judgement on what exam board you should sit with as I only have experience with one, sorry.

Hope this helps

For AQA A level psychology, be prepared to learn hella content! I recommend focusing on 16 mark questions and memorising them off by heart, so you can answer other shorter mark questions. Flashcards or anki flashcards will save your life in this subject. Tutor2u is a fantastic website too specifically for the AQA syllabus. I don’t think it’s possible to learn all the content in a year though. If you’re self teaching then yes this may be possible. Let me know if you have any other questions!

I understand, well I'll give it a shot. I'll be most likely self teaching so I'll see.

Many thanks again. 😊
