English Lit Coursework Word Count!!!

My A-level English lit coursework (edexcel) is not really supposed to be much longer than 3,000 words but mine is just under 4,000 words. Do any past English lit students know if I would be penalised for this in any way? My EPQ was 1,000 words over the limit (6,000 instead of 5,000) but still received full marks.

I’ve heard there’s like a 5-10% leeway either side for most however-many-thousand-word essays. I think it’d be best to ask your teacher if it’s a strict word limit or not. Also, in relation to your EPQ, did you do an English related one? If so, do you have any advice as most people doing EPQs - at least at my school - are doing STEM related ones. Thanks!

Hi,
Mines currently at 3300-400 (sitting at an A*) and my teacher has said its okay, I would try and maybe get it down to 3400 highest as I know other schools have recommended for it to be no higher than that.

Congratulations 🥳 any tips? Did you make lots of points with little analysis or did you make a few points with lots of analysis?

Hi, if this is still relevant I would love to know what happened with your coursework as I have the exact same problem! My (English-related) EPQ got full marks at 6,500 words and my coursework is currently at 5,000 but should be 3,000. Thanks
