Reckon I can drop a level chemistry 5 months in 💀

So basically I am doing a level biology and chemistry with CTEC business and I am failing chemistry bad. But I also despise it with all my heart and regret choosing it so much and I don’t wanna do it anymore I am willing to do any other course but it. Ik it’s probably not wise but do you think it would even be possible to start a new course at this point even if they let me?

I think it would be a bit risky to change it now but it all depends on what career you want to do. 5 months is a lot of content to catch up on. It would definitely be stressful and difficult. You may even end up doing worse then you would've done in chemistry. But at the same time it's really horrible having to be stick with an a level that you hate (especially if it's not necessary to your career). I think firstly check whether it is possible for you to switch first. If they do let you, think about whether switching from chem is gonna affect your career choice or not. If it doesn't affect it, ask for support and advice from teachers or friends to see of you would really be able to succeed in a different a level. This is definitely not a decision you want to rush. I hope whatever your decision you can find the strength to get through this difficult season! (Well it's been difficult for me anyway 😅). Hope this helps

first of all i am assuming you’re 5 months in to year 12, so swapping your course to something like maths or something wouldnt be that bad assuming you have prior gcse knowledge and are willing to spend extra hours outside of school catching up, you’ll obviously have to put in a lot of effort.

if you are unable to switch your course then dont worry, i started learning chemistry from scratch 3 weeks before my final exam. I was on a U before. So i spent 2 weeks learning all of paper 1. 3 days learning all of organic (paper2). and no revision for paper 3. I ended up getting an A.

How I prepared:

I watched Allery Chemistry on youtube explaining each topic

I made notes while learning from him

I then got on discord video call with 2 of my friends who were good at chemistry, together we went over the content and did some practice questions

I then attempted past papers to improve my knowledge and get to know the format of exam papers

lastly, i just memorised important stuff right before the exam

obviously i didnt do a lot of preparation so I scored an average of around 70% across the 3 papers, and ended up securing an A.

With chemistry I had to learn all of Maths and Further Maths from scratch aswell.

so dont worry i’m sure you’ll be fine. just lock in for the next couple of months you have lots of time

i did AQA bro, and dont worry because I was on a U when the school finished the content. So I just self studied, you can catch up at home bro, no matter what exam board you do just spend time learning each and every topic until youre good at it

yeah tbh in year 12 i used to smoke every maths/calculation question. but the year 13 maths/calculations would destroy me, i would still figure out some but i missed essential learning for those calculation questions, even tho i didnt do well in them i got most of the theory questions right. and dw if you find maths part hard, (i did maths+fm) and got a maths offer from Warwick and KCL 🙃
