SFE migrant worker, employment after you're finished course

I am writing to clarify my eligibility for the Maintenance Loan as a migrant worker. I was employed while studying my course, which started in January and ended in July. My understanding is that my worker status should be assessed based on my employment during my period of study, what happens if I didn't work after I finished my course, but I started to work 3 months before to start my course again, I'm still eligible for maintenance loan?Thank you.

Do we have your current course down as finishing in the summer? Is it a brand new course you're beginning in January? Thanks, Jason

Thanks.

If the actual course year ended in July then as long as you're working till then and start again before the 1st of January then your funding wouldn't be impacted.

However, courses run for a 12 month period that's why I was checking as if your course year starts in January it would run to December. So if you are not changing to a new course or seasonal intake (a new start date), then if you can advise the name of the course and university and I can check the course dates for you? Thanks, Jason

Leeds trinity university

Thanks. The course runs until 22 Aug 2025. So you need to be working the full academic year and prior to the start of 1st Jan 2026.

If you change jobs or leave that job after your academic year ends, you need to advise us of any changes to their employment or self-employment circumstances as soon as possible and should not wait until we request the evidence. This can be your P45 confirming the end of your employment and then your new job details once you begin the new employment. Thanks, Jason

If it's a zero hour contract the assessors will work out your average hours through your payslips. Thanks, Jason

Hi there,

A zero-hours contract can be fine, yes, so long as you have some other proof of what you earned, like payslips or invoices.

It sounds like you have this kind of evidence.

Just to check, are you asking about a 23/24 or 24/25 application?

Thanks, Graeme
