Transferring my studies

I am currently studying a foundation degree in health and social care. I am planning to leave at the end of year 1. So I will achieve 120 credits at level 4 & a cert of he. I am looking to apply to psychology/ psychology with education. I only have 2 a levels at a CC due to mental heath issues. If I have a cert of he will that override my a levels as I’ll have a qualification higher than a levels anyway??

A lot of the time doing a foundation year dosent count towards a separate qualification, but if your university does offer a certhe after that year then fair. Universities in general only accept certhe's if your level 3 qualifications still meet or are at least close enough to their entry requirements. Since it's a level 4 qualification, it would not "override" your A level grades. However, with your circumstances in mind you should contact each university you want to apply to and ask them what their policy for level 4 qualifications is. Also, don't mean to be rude but universities won't be shy in asking for "proof" of your mental health struggles (sorry :/).

Basically, they will most likely ask you to resit or do an access course unless their entry requirements are lower to begin with.

It’s not a foundation year it’s a foundation degree which helps you leave with a certificate of higher education at the end of year 1 or a diploma of higher education at the end of year 2. which is equivalent to year 1/ year 2 of an undergraduate degree but thank you anyway. I have proof of my mental health issues as well so that’s no problem.

Oh okay that's my bad. I wish you the best, it rlly does depend on the university so it's not hopeless. Sorry if I came across insensitive, my friend was put in a similar situation in terms of having to provide documents and stuff. Having emailed so many universities before about entry requirements, I know how rigid they can be. Best of luck in your future applications

Hey there , I can't speak for all other universities but from my own and from the information I gathered while I was a clearing assistant these last two summers . The admissions team will consider all your qualifications for the application , if you are concerned about your A Levels results I understand. I would suggest that you would attend some open days and talk to the admissions teams over the phone to query with the individual universities what they're policies are.
I was a mature student when I applied for my current course I used all my qualifications including my previous degree and from what I am aware of them were considered for my application.
I hope this helps and good luck with your applications in the future . If you are interested in finding out a little bit more about our university , I suggest you give the enquiry team a call they should be able to assist.

Hello! It's great to hear that you are considering studying psychology, I have really enjoyed my last few years studying it at university and have learnt so much! For entry requirements with less common qualifications (i.e. not A Level or BTEC), I would really recommend getting in contact with the admissions departments for each of the courses you are interested in, as they would be able to advise on your specific situation. Many universities will also give special consideration if you meet any widening participation criteria.
Whilst Lancaster University doesn't offer a specific psychology with education course, our psychology BSc is accredited by the BPS and provides a great foundation for further study such as teacher training, or the DEdPsy. Lancaster also offers two MSc courses in developmental psychology which can be applied in educational contexts should you wish to pursue that path. https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/psychology/

Best of luck with your applications!
