Imperial Engineering

Hi guys, I’m a year 12 who’s aiming to study Biomedical Engineering at imperial, and I’m wondering if I have a chance? My gcse grades are lowk mid so I’m worried, and I think I may need some more hands on experience.

GCSEs: 99988887 (7 was in rs)
A levels: Maths, Physics, Biology and English (don’t have predicteds yet)

current supercurriculars: stem smart (double maths n physics), reading scholars (maths), medtech lectures at imperial and ucl, I ran personal medtech project independently at school and participate in a maths extension program outside of school.

extracurriculars: part-time maths tutoring, I also won a linguistics essay competition

future supercurriculars: I’ve applied to K+, plan on going to Cambridge’s maths day and have applied to various summer schools. I’m also waiting to hear back from an eng firm for work experience.

What else can I do to improve my chances? Thanks

Your GCSE grades are really good well done!!
With all the things you're doing, you definitely have a chance.
Try to do supercurriculars about a specific niche topic which you can include in your personal statement. I'm not sure about entrance tests but I would advise you to prepare for that as well.
Imperial is a rigorous uni so they will defo look at your academic ability as well as motivation
If possible you could do a EPQ???
But that's it. Hopefully you get into imperial 😊

GCSES dont matter at all, so dont worry. I got offers from top unis with only 6 total gcses (999976).

I did apply to oxford and imperial but fell short in the admission test, they only cared about my predicted grades, nothing else 👍🏼

thank u sm!
I can’t do an epq sadly (my school doesn’t allow 4 alevels and an epq), but I’m looking into doing a crest award, which is kind of similar x

For specific supercurriculars do you have any recommendations?

There are so many things you could do - online lectures/taster sessions
Lectures in YouTube
Books
Podcasts - Imperial probably has one
Work experience
Independent research - articles, websites, publications

There are supercurricular recommendations in Imperial Faculty of Engineering website and well as Cambridge's supercurricular recommendations
They don't care about how much you have done but how well you have engaged with it (what did you learn, your opinions, critical thinking, passion)
