GSA musical theatre recall

Hi
Does anyone know how the musical theatre recalls and acceptances work when schools audition for months?

I just don’t know how they make the decisions at different times of year. Are you more likely to get an offer if your recall in January or March for example?

I have just attended recall at GSA I know they have been interviewing for months and more to follow.

30 of us were there in the day and only one got an interview and offer at the end of it.

I just don’t know how they can justify taking money from and inviting so many to recalls when the final number selected is so few. I have already spent around £1000 for audition fees and travel and have 3 more recalls to other schools left. I am starting to wonder if it is worth it. It is money I can’t really afford and I find the way it is approached extremely disheartening.

1 out of 30 recalled sounds exceptionally brutal! I would have thought 25% or so. I agree it's wrong if that's the proportions offered from recall, they should refine the self tape selection more as people put a lot of effort into recalls too on the basis that they've got a good chance of acceptance if recalled.

I agree with you ... it's cost us > £1000 so far and not done yet. But we didn't go to any open days, so auditions have been first ever visits, and helping with decision making if applying again next year (if end up on foundation or gap year this year), so we are taking it as a one off cost of checking out many of the main schools for the first and maybe only time. R has also found that the in person auditions are so helpful, she's learned loads in terms of what's expected, that she wouldn't have got from tapes auditions.

You've done very well to get so many recalls!

I cant answer your question but could I ask how the your recall day was please. My son has one and I have booked return train from King Cross for 7.30pm and I am not sure if I should make them later in the day? Thanks in advance.

My daughter had her GSA recall on the 22nd February. She got an interview at the end but was still out for around half 4 and was able to make it to Euston in plenty of time for her 6.30pm train back to Scotland. I think he will be ok for that time

It's a really tough process. But reflective of what it's like out in the industry I think. You have to be really keen and very resilient (and this is of course a little easier if you have the funds to support you through the process). Well done on getting so many recalls.
