Winchester or Oxford Brookes??

I am torn between my two safeties

I love both cities but they are so similar and so different at the same time

I don't know which one will set me up better for life after uni! Does one have a better academic reputation? If I don't get my first choice I don't want to 'waste' my degree on a uni that is not well regarded but I'm not sure if one is better academically?

It depends what you are studying. Oxford Brookes has a good reputation for mechanical engineering and its Formula racing team is superb.

Oxford Brookes is more highly ranked than Winchester both as an institution and for psychology.

I am in the exact same position but for primary education course. I love both of the unis so much! What is helping you to decide?

Brookes - excellent academic reputation and Oxford is a hundred times more interesting than Winchester - plus it has no reputation for anything.

i’m going to both of the offer holder open days - going to see if the teaching styles are similar or not! if there’s no difference or i don’t have a preference then i’ll just stick to reputation i think!

This is a great plan. I have known people on the primary course at Winchester and they have enjoyed it. Winchester is a small town with good connections to Southampton. I have also known people very happy at Oxford Brooks.
In the end its down to where you feel you would flourish

Hi @lilybees,

Congratulations on your offer! 🎉

It’s completely normal to feel unsure when deciding between universities, especially when they have similarities. What matters most is finding the right fit for you.

Employers value your skills, experiences, and industry connections just as much as the university name on your degree.

Learn more about your course

We encourage you to make the most of your visit; ask plenty of questions and really picture yourself studying and living here. Sometimes, that in-person experience is the best way to make your decision!

Whichever university you choose, what really matters is how you make the most of your time there. We’d love to welcome you to Oxford Brookes and are here to support you every step of the way.
