Psychology student internships

I am currently a second-year Psychology student at the University of Southampton, and I am ideally looking for an internship or volunteering for this year. I have found it hard to find suitable opportunities, as they normally tend to require a completed undergraduate qualification or further qualification.
I was just wondering whether anyone had any advice on how to find more suitable opportunities appropriate for students, and actually where to look for student internships, in particular psychology ones?
Hi @rose05

Have you looked on MyCareer? They tend to advertise alot of internships on there. Many of the internships tend to be suitable for those looking for a summer internship between 2nd and 3rd year. In particular, the UoS Internships. Even if you can't find anything you are interested in now, they keep releasing more so I would recommend just to keep checking. In addition, the university is going to advertise Undergraduate Research internships on MyCareer from the 24th February so you may find one of those to be suitable.

The Careers Team at the University would also be able to help further. You can book a 15 minute Ask the Advisor appointment - in person or online. You can tell them what you are looking for and they can recommend you some additional websites that you can look on.

Hi, yes I have but there are very few opportunities relating to psychology. What is different about the undergraduate research internships? I have previously had a meeting, but I am struggling to find appropriate volunteering/internships.

Psychology students received an email at the start of the semester with information about applying to be a voluntary research assistant. This is where you help postgraduate students with their psychology research. It might be worth having a look to see if applications are still open, but if not, there will be opportunities next year too!

Although there isn't much on Uos Internships right now, keep a look out because more opportunities usually get put on there for the summer. Also keep an eye on your emails as we get sent a lot of roles for short-term and part-time psychology job roles.

This isn't an internship, but I volunteered earlier this year as a Tutor the Nation online tutor for A-level psychology students. This was great experience, especially if you are looking to go into education.

I would recommend also having a look at the Uos Volunteering Bank as there is usually quite a lot on there. Applications for the Peer Leading scheme for semester one next year are also coming out soon, so keep an eye on the uospal Instagram account.

Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions!
