Graduate role

Hi, So i’ve graduated with a law degree around a year and a half ago, I have been applying for entry level roles such as legal admin/ assistant and paralegal and civil services roles too. However, most of these roles require at least one year experience and I haven’t had much luck, while I did to some work experience during university, I feel it’s not enough. Can anyone please explain what I could do to land my desired role? especially with little experience.

Welcome to the oversubscribed legal market where even minimum wage paralegal roles aren't easy to secure. Horrible isn't it?

Apply to legal secretary roles at law firms, or case work assistant roles. I've had people contact me about legal secretary positions that don't require experience.
And btw, paralegal roles have never been easy to secure. Unhelpful comment really.

You could try securing a document review role through an agency such as Adecco or Flex Legal. Adecco recruit on behalf of some civil service departments.

How do you advise to secure these roles, as many require at least one year prior experience in a similar role. Thanks.

You’ll have to find legal secretary roles that don’t say you need a year of experience. There are those out there and people I graduated with did that with no relevant experience. CPS has casework assistant roles open now if you have an interest in criminal law.

Even if they require experience apply anyways! Try personal advisory rather than business - easier to get into! I am a paralegal - that’s why I have given the said suggestions!

When referring to personal advisory, does this include areas like personal injury, civil litigation e.c.t? And where do you suggest I start looking? Thanks again!

business advisory: commercial, commercial disputes, corporate, banking and finance, real estate

Employment are usually in both

Applications open later this month for Crown Prosecution Service paralegal assistant opportunities. You don't need experience to apply, we provide full paralegal training. We're looking for people with an interest in criminal law and commitment to public service. You can find out more about our paralegal opportunities here.

Let me know if you have any questions
