Edexcel A-level Economics 🔥Hell🔥

I’m at my wits end. I’ve nearly given up on revision. I always get a D no matter what I do. My notes are a mess. It’s not like I’m even aiming that high. I only want a B. 🥲 I did 2 weeks straight only economics revision before I had an exam. I was so confident that I’d get a C but actually I got an E… my grade went down. I also can’t afford to buy notes or Flashcards from people, I barely live on my bursary. Someone help. What am I doing wrong? 😭

I do A Level Economics but not Edexcel, so hopefully some of these tips help.

If you are struggling with understand content:

Watching YouTube videos and asking your teachers for support might be more effective for you than just note taking. Econplusdal can be very helpful, I know some people don't like learning from videos, but there is no shame in trying something new.
Also, I like to voice record myself going through the content as if I am teaching myself, because if I can articulate concepts out loud, it's easier for me to understand them and plus I can listen back to the recording.
From any tests or mocks you've done, on questions you didn't do particularly well on, write down which topic it was from, then revise the content for that first so you can focus your revision on certain areas.
Remember to revisit year 12 content or else you'll easily forget it, and this is important as you can still be assessed on it in exams.
You may want to start organising your work into macro and micro folders, if not already. Or you might want to get a separate revision folder.

If you struggling with exam technique:

Go on the Edexcel Website and find essays from past papers and make plans for them. As your teacher if they will mark any extra essays you do, if they yes, for the ones you think you will struggle to write, write them and get some feedback on them. You may want to time yourself while doing the questions, if you struggle with time in exams. Also, econplusdal has some great videos on evaluation and analysis too. Wider reading using the BBC or Financial Times is helpful for application in essays. Financial Times is actually free for students aged 16 to 19, so just ask a teacher to they can help you sign up if you're interested.

Good luck. Hopefully some of these techniques help.

I generally read the news a lot anyways and basically never lose application marks. It’s just my chains are always so weak. They’re terrible and I think my knowledge is lacking too much. I’ve tried econplusdal and it’s not even like I have a bad attention span I’ve been able to read books and do activities for hours straight it’s just I can’t listen to him. Physically cannot. I think if I don’t understand a topic I’ll just use uplearn since my school gave us all a subscription.

My economics teachers are just not it. One of them is actually quite good. The other just goes so back and forth I get lost and I don’t ask questions cuz if I do it’s like signing up for a hell of being picked on and bullied for not knowing stuff.

Thanks for the tips though about past papers. I don’t think I’ve timed myself and done essay questions properly. It’s one of the most basic tips but I just haven’t been doing it. Actually I think I’ve only ever handed in an optional essay once.

Yes, timing in exams is such a simple thing to forget when going through tons of content.

I have uplearn too through my school, I personally find it a bit slow but it will help with content you don't understand, however not with exam technique that much. Econplusdal can go on a bit but if you’re going to watch one video, the analysis one is definitely worth a try.
