Leeds Dentistry

Hey guys, i really need help I applied for Dentistry 2025 application cycle but got rejected. I wanted to persue a degree in Dental Hygiene and Therapy within Leeds but they said I cannot apply to both but I should apply next year to the course. Im sure in 2024 cycle they allowed to apply for both. Anyway not im stuck because I got rejected from all universities on my gap year and I need to go to a university my mental health on my gap year has been so bad I cannot take another one it will simply destroy me. I am so upset about all of this and not in a good position mentally by these rejections and unfortunately the university's keep changing rules after applications are being sent due to the overload in applications. What can I do now?
From the prespective of the university both courses are extremely competitive, so it's not fair to give an unfair advantage to dentistry applicants who've been rejected and seem to only see DHT as a backup plan over those who genuinely want to study the course. I know it can be frustrating, but i think you seriously need to take a step back and evaluate which course you want to do. If you want to start DHT with the idea of transferring into dentistry, just know that that route is even more competitive than you applying again next year.

I understand the mental toll and fomo you must be feeling, but i would say don't rush into anything as of yet. Considering you applied for dentistry your grades must be good, so it's not about you not being smart so don't beat yourself up too much it's not healthy. You still have UCAS extra, rejections now don't necessarily mean you won't be going to university this year. Realistically, it's about whether you'd be happy with the options still available or rush into a course because of your negative experience during this gap year.

Regardless of what you end up doing, keep in mind both courses are a lot of work and if you don't have healthy coping mechanisms now university could be an even more stressful experience than your gap year :/

I wish you the best honestly, its still early days. Plenty of people get into courses they love through clearing

Hey, thanks for the response. I know dentistry is somthing I want to persure for sure - i have looked into both dental surgery and dental hygiene and therapy courses both in which are completely different courses and aspects of dentistry. I know this because I have done work experience in both. My grades are in BTEC Triple in Applied Science D*D*D* and also 2 A Levels in Biology and Modern Foreign Languages. Unfortunately these are not enough for Dentistry but I thought I would give this a shot. I have research dental hygiene and therapy and love it as a course and would love to now persure this. Unfortunately I am too late for this. What i meant with gap year and it destroying my mental health is that I dont have a health relationship with family at home (its that sort of issues which is affecting my mental health). Which is why I am eager to go to university this year. I still have Kings college london for hygiene and therapy to reply back to me however i doubt the fact I would be accepted because I applied on ucas with the intention of getting into dentistry so I really hope there is some courses for dental hygiene and therapy on UCAS Extra.

I understand your situation more now, definitely hard to further yourself with a tough home life. I would definitely say so long as the course has more of a focus on dental therapy you should enjoy it, so I'm glad to hear you know about both courses thoroughly. Hearing your grades, and looking through ucas there's definitely still options for you through ucas extra if kings dosent come through for you. I know Sheffield and Huddersfield will be less competitive this year for sure. Your situation is very unique, so you're definitely in the top band of candidates so I hope that makes u feel a bit better. Fingers crossed honestly xx

Btw Sheffield has different start date, so you're definitely not too late at all !
