Can I do a level physics with a gcse in physics

I am a student currently studying towards my gcse. I do maths(8 in mock) dt comp sci rs eng lang eng lit chemistry. I would like to do maths further maths computer science and physics for a level. My friends have said that I would do well in physics and would enjoy it. I want to do a mechanical engineering degree. Should it be to difficult and would any school let me do it

I'm a bit confused, are you asking if you can do A Level physics without a GCSE in it? Also, do you do GCSE combined science or just chemistry?

Sorry if I wasn't clear but I only do chemistry gcse (I tried to change to physics but they wodent let me). I would like to do the a level in physics but have not done physics at gcae just single science chemistry
Hi,
I studied A Level Maths, Physics and Further Maths at A level and I found the information within GCSE Physics was very valuable to helping me as it covered most of the basics in greater detail. These basics were covered at A level just more as a recap and quick overview. This means you may struggle initially at A level. However I would advise directly contacting the college or sixth form you intend on applying and asking about what GCSEs they recommend as they know the difficulty and requirements for there course much better than anyone else.
I wish you the best and hope this all works out

Hi Richie, It's a steep learning curve. Most sixth forms will expect a grade 7 or above for A Level. You would have to teach yourself, or be taught Physics GCSE before starting your A Level. If you are passionate about studying engineering, then you can find a way. Those summer holidays are looong. It is not a mainstream route so you will need to be independent in studying the GCSE Physics and convincing your sixth form that you can take the Physics GCSE in November (resit exams). You would need to persuade them by offering to sit a mock before September to show your standard is high enough. Good luck, this will be a good a life skill in making your own luck if you go ahead with it.
