Hey is applying for Bath for Politics and IR a competitive process through UCAS etc?
People tend to just competitiveness in different ways, so make what you will of the below.
• They're asking for AAA or A*AB in three A levels. • In recent years they've made offers to 19 in every 20 applicants to this course and 26 other politics courses. (source) • For those candidates who received an offer for this course and 26 other politics courses and were still holding that offer on results day, 39% of candidates which achieved BBB had their place confirmed. That number increased to 48% for ABB and to 76% for AAB. (Same source as above)
From the above, it doesn't seem massively competitive to me.
Great to hear you're interested in the area of PIR/PwE 🙂
I wouldn't rely on historical acceptance data from UCAS too much as this data includes contextual and alternative offers which will naturally be lower than the standard offer. That being said, yes @DataVenia these courses are not usually as competitive as courses such as Comp Sci, Mech Eng and Psychology - although each course's popularity changes year on year.
Social Science at Bath is not competitive. Usually if you meet the entry requirement, you'll get an offer and they usually accept 'below grades' in August. Why? Because Bath is a STEM and Management focussed Uni and has no academic reputation at all for Soc Sci. There are far better Unis to apply to.
