How do I decide what I want to do for my post-16 options?

I have always wanted to become a surgeon when I'm older but it is a rigorous process. However, it is something I would love to do. If not, I would definitely love to work in medicine or maybe even a teacher! I want to particularly go into neurosurgery. What should I do after my GCSEs? Should I go to college or sixth form? Is a part time job worth it? Should I get work experience? Are there any apprenticeships (NOT for NEUROSURGERY if that wasn't clear enough)? Anything is much appreciated! Sorry for the endless questioning.

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. Not for brain surgery; more for teaching? Obviously, apprenticeships for surgery don't exist.
