S5 subjects choices

I have to hand in my option sheet for S5 in a few weeks and I don't know what to pick. I'm currently doing English, maths, physics, engineering science, geography and pe all at N5. In my prelim I got an A in everything except pe (there's no exam) and geography. I'm planning on taking higher maths, physics and engineering science as I really enjoy maths. I would like to do 4 highers but because of columns I can't unless I do higher English which I don't really want to do as I find it sort of difficult and don't enjoy. I am also planning on taking N5 chemistry but I've never done chemistry before and don't know if it would be difficult or not. My school also offers a L6 literacy and communications which is between N5 and higher English but doesn't have an exam. Does anyone have any ideas what I should do?

The subjects you should take mainly depend on what you want to do after school, in uni or an apprenticeship etc.
You should not take a subject that you don't enjoy and find difficult, it is a recipe for disaster. You school might be able to help you with your options choices if you talk to your pupil support teacher/careers adviser.
I took n5 chemistry last year, taking higher this year, and n5 was decently easy. If you put in regular study, you should be able to get an A without much hassle.
Best of luck, if you have any more questions I'll do my best to answer them.

HII, I'm in S6 and just want to say well done on ur prelim results thats fab! I'll leave all the sciencey subject advice to people that have actually taken chemistry etc, but I think you should be okay if you can handle physics/mathsy subjects, maybe speak to a chemistry teacher if you can? Have you got a rough idea of what you want to do when you leave school/ when you want to leave? I think with english its better to just take it sadly - I know english is so ew- but in the long run its better getting your higher english now. For exmaple, If you're planning to stay on till S6 you might decide to do a few crash highers that could require you to have your higher english to show your capable of handling the course content. Also as well if your planning to go to uni/college they might want you to have higher english specifically, I guess it depends what you want to do but I think its just better to have it just in case. Some unis will view Literacy and communications as less valuable in comparison to higher english since there's no exam. Every school is different though so yeah definetly speak to a teacher! Oh my gosh so many words, didn't mean to overwhelm you lmao.

(you don't need to be set on what you want to do when u leave skl btw, I didn't know until about 3 months ago, and don't stress)

I think physics and maths would be fine, haven't taken geography so I wouldn't know, but if you dont want or need English I wouldn't take it because at my school we have to take it until we get a higher in itand I am really struggling with it lmao . I think chemistry would be fine, but I would definitely take N5 as ive done chemistry since S1 every single year, got an A in the N5 exam and higher is litro so hard like ive just failed my prelim in it (whoops) but I would maybe recommend a social subject or a business subject just to have a more even spread of subjects? although ultimately it is up to you but you could always speak to head of chemistry/science or just any chemistry teacher to just get some advice from someone who would obviously understand better about crashing it

It seems like you're asking about "S5 subjects," which could refer to the subjects taken in the fifth year of secondary school or the equivalent in a specific educational system (such as Scotland or the UK). If you're referring to choosing subjects for a certain year of study, it's important to consider what aligns with your interests, strengths, and future aspirations.
Could you clarify if you're asking about subject selection for high school, college, or university, or if there's a specific context for "S5"? Let me know, and I can provide more detailed advice!
