A level subject questions

Hi!
so my a level subjects are maths, physics , geography and German and I recognise it’s too late to switch out geography for chemistry and further maths so I am aiming on getting all A*/As. Though my question is do universities care a lot about the third subject beyond more than the grade Itself (geography ) if I want to apply for physics at uni at St Andrews, Lancaster,Durham, bath or (very unlikely) imperial?

Hi, if the university course only mentions the grade and subject specific (normally for first two grades), then no, so no need to worry but you can double check!
Hi @Taiyo85914

To study Bsc Physics Hons at Lancaster, our entry requirements for 2025 are AAA, which include an A in A-level Mathematics and A-level Physics.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to let us know.

No Unis wants or prefers 4 A levels for any subject and if the 3rd subject is not specified, or there are no 'we dont accept' subjects on the individual course page, it can be literally any subject so dropping your weakest subject from Geog / German would not disadvantage your application.

You should be absolutely fine to do 3 subjects. If you do go on with 4 and apply to uni with 4, keep in mind that in rare circumstances, unis can make you 4 A level offers. It happened to me and one of my friends (and yes, the 4th A level was completely unrelated to both of our degrees). So make sure you really enjoy all the 4 subjects you are doing if you plan on sticking with 4!
