Withdrawing halfway though Masters Course. Using SF on new Masters Course?

Hi Student Finance,

I am currently doing a Psych Conversion Course part-time over 2 years. I have paid for the first module and received about 4k in Student Finance which has covered that portion.

Since learning more about the subject and the potential routes, I have decided that I would likely want to do a Psychotherapy Masters instead. I would like to know: if I were to withdraw from my current course after only completely the 1st out of 2 modules, would I be able to access Student Finance again to start a different Masters?

Thank you for your help!
Ashley

Hi Ashley,

Were you receiving Postgraduate Master's Loan for the current course? Can you confirm the university, course name and length of the new one, so we can check this on the system for you?

Thanks,
Claire

Yes I am receiving a Postgrad loan for this current course. Open University, Msc Psychology Conversion it's part-time over 2 years. The new one would also be a Masters and would be part-time over 3 years.

Hi Ashley,

Postgraduate Master's finance is a 1 time only product, meaning if you have received finance before whether part or all, you wouldn't be eligible for another without Compelling Personal Reason's (CPR) evidence.

If you have withdrawn due to CPR, you would need to apply on a paper application for Postgraduate, when these open in 26/27 a/y, and then post this back with CPR evidence.

The evidence would be a letter on headed paper signed/stamped and dated from someone in profession i.e. Doctor/lecturer who knows the CPR. They must know how it affected your studies and the dates it affected you. Once received it will be up to the assessor if this will be accepted or not.

Some Postgraduate course's may come under Postgraduate Healthcare courses which are exceptions, this is why I was asking for your course details. If you contact us nearer the time applications are due to open, we can check if it is one.

Thanks,
Claire

Hi Claire,

Thanks so much for the help.

One last question: I would like to pause the remainder of my Student Finance for this module before I make the decision to withdraw. Is that possible? Thank you!

Hi ashers1233,

Yes, you can suspend with the intention of returning. Your university can send a Change of Circumstances through to confirm you have suspended. If you return, they would just send s resumption, if you leave permanently, they would then send through a Change of Circumstances withdrawal.

Thanks, Clare
