Strathclyde University Joint Degree

Hi!
I’ve recently received an unconditional to study at Strathclyde for 2025, doing a BA in English and creative writing. After applying I had seen that the course was available to be taken as a joint degree and I could have done English and creative writing and human resource management. I am wondering if there is any way once I arrive to take hrm as a subject then make my single degree a joint one. Is Strathclyde an institute ok with swapping and joining degrees as I know a lot of universities are against it. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Congratulations on your offer. Are you Scottish, RUK or international fee?

If you are certain this is the degree you want to do - phone / email them now.
Its much easier to switch now than once courses are fulll at the start of term.

It doesn’t change anything, but each university has a certain amount of Scottish students they can take on their courses as this is funded by the Scottish government

English is in the humanities department. All 1st year students have to do 2 extra subjects so you'll be fine. You can opt to carry on with two after 1st year or stick with single honours. So you will be able to do HRM if you want.

Hey @newstudentuser1 sorry it's taken me a wee while to get back to you! Did you hear back from the admissions team on this? 🙂 You should be able to pick up HRM as one of your additional subjects in year one (alongside one other Humanities subject), and then you can specialise in the two subjects from your second year onwards.

Hope this helps!

Hi Caitlin, any idea if politics/IR offers or rejections are likely to come out soon or is it likely to be a while yet?

Hello! I don't have exact timelines unfortunately, but I know they're working through their applications so if you're waiting to hear back hopefully you will soon! Politics & IR falls under the 'BA Humanities & Social Sciences' degree programme where we recieve lots of applications so it's a big task for our admissions teams and they'll be giving each application consideration. We normally work towards a best practice deadline of having decisions made by the end of March, so hopefully you'll hear back before then.

Hope this helps!

Thanks. Do admissions read personal statements or mainly academic qualifications?

I did! They are saying the same, thank you greatly. Would it be in my best interest to call up and change my degree now in case HRM is full? Or wait until my year one/two. Thanks Caitlin
