Is anything happening with 2d animation in Hertfordshire?

Weird question and I'm not going personally, this is slight worry for a friend but don't want to stress them before I check. But Hertfordshires creative course is notoriously at least fairly difficult, at least I was told it was and I'm doing 3d. Yet now he got a random unconditional offer after his portfolio originally was rejected and it struck me as incredibly strange? I mean going from not even being offered an interview to unconditionally accepted is weird right? I wondered if it was because of the issues in industry but yeah, I mean proud as anything but really wanted any opinions. Thanks alot
This is unusual but there's some context missing here-

Did he originally apply and then re-apply through clearing?

Or apply last year and then reapply this year?

Or get some kind of informal rejection and then later a formal offer in UCAS?

Do you know for sure that his portfolio was the same both times he applied?
It might be that his portfolio was different and he didn't tell you/show you. That would be the simplest answer. Or a different lecturer reviewed the portfolio to the one that did the previous time - variance in opinion happens.

I'd say it's likely issues in industry would be irrelevant as universities are businesses that operate very differently and (generally) outside of the industries they are preparing their students for.
