I’ll send you a pm
Hi Vetmum13 , you have already helped us out so much already! Please can we ask for your assistance again, my son was accepted at UCLAN yesterday after clearing and we know so little about the course. Looking at private halls would you advise 44 weeks or 51?
Also is there transport provided when they go to myerscough for animal handling?
Any other advice gratefully received? 🙏

Hi @S.Fern,

I just checked and yes transport is provided between the university and Myerscough College. The journey is about 25-30 minutes. If you or your son have Instagram, the vets school have just done a Q&A on their stories full of useful information, which you can take a look at via @unilancashire_vets

When I studied here, I went for the 44 week contract to start with but then had to move home for a few weeks during summer until my next accommodation tenancy started so after 1st year, I went for the longer 51 week contracts. I didn't have to move too far but it was still more hassle and back and forth for just a few weeks. Sometimes you can extend it for a few weeks or start your contract a bit sooner so there are ways around the shorter contracts to avoid moving back home during summer unless that is what your son is looking for of course 🙂

Hope this helps, ^Zac

Hi @gracesmith2006,

Well done and a massive congratulations! It's great to hear that you are coming to our open day. Our August Open Day is an enhanced event for veterinary courses. You'll get everything a normal Open Day offers, plus a range of dedicated sessions to give you all you need to know about studying in our School of Veterinary Medicine.

Our Facebook community will give you an idea of what to expect from university. It's a great way to make friends with people before you’ve even arrived here.
There is a community group for each undergraduate subject area where you can:

Make friends with people from your course or subject area.

Share resources and ideas on course assignments and projects.

Ask questions about your course and University life.

To join the groups, please visit: Social campus

We do also have a handy checklist to make starting university smoother, which you can take a look at here: Welcome checklist

Best wishes, ^Zac

i think so but im not entirely sure. I spoke to the assistant dean today and he said a lot of students missed their grades this year and although they didnt expect to be in clearing that was why they were.

Reply 51

Oooo wonder why that was. Thanks for the reply.

I got AAB and A in EPQ it was the 5 year course I was super pleased, i did also get offered medicine in clearing so maybe it is because my grades are science based.

Hi @astercat,
Thank you for your message. As we only have one year's data to go by, over 75% went onto the full BVMS course. Entry on the foundation BVMS course does not guarantee a place onto the 5 year course however, if you pass the foundation course, and meet the other requirements such as interview and MMI's, then you will be guaranteed a place on the 5 year degree.
If you would like anymore information, we do have an offer holder day on 27 April which you can book onto here: Offer Holder Days at UCLan If you can't make it to the offer holder day we do also have an open day in June. Offer holder days are super useful to get a flavour of the course, the support there is for you and to get a feel for the university as well as getting all of your questions answered. If you do have any other questions, please let me know 🙂
Hope this helps and best wishes,
^Zac

Sorry I’m picking up this thread again so according to this response, if an applicant is offered the foundation course due to not meeting grades (but had conditional offer for 5 yr so passed MMIs) they are guaranteed a place on the 5 ur if they successfully pass the foundation modules? Thanks in advance
