Y13 GYG: Trying to meet Cambridge Offer 🌟

hey! i’m in year 13 and i have an offer to study at kings college, cambridge for law! i’m doing maths, art, and history at alevel, and in my most recent mocks i received an A* in History, an A in Art, and a B in maths. i would be overjoyed, but my cambridge offer is A*AA, so that B in maths is a problem!!

i’ll be updating this daily to keep myself to a revision schedule, and have also been given a free maths tutor for 30 hours until my exams (thank you kings !!) so i hopefully will see an improvement in my maths grade

if this interests anyone or you’re in a similar position as i am please comment, it would be nice to start a community of sorts to keep me motivated, because i am a terrible procrastinator!! (thanks ADHD πŸ₯²πŸ₯²)

thank you! i’m not sure what i got in my lnat yet, but the results come out in mid feb so any day now hopefully! and for gcses i got 9999887777, so you definitely don’t need all 9’s to get an offer 😊

day 2: i got ahead on the content for parametric equations and finally finished that art piece i was doing yesterday. i’m going to new york with my school tomorrow ! so probably will be doing less each day, but will still try to keep this updated 😊

wow well done on getting an offer!! I'm also looking to do law at cambridge and also struggle with maths!
What grades did you apply to uni with? I'm in y12 and have my mocks in a few weeks, and I'm worried about not getting the grades I need to apply.
Also do you have any advice on taking the lnat?

Congrats! I'm in a similar position (offer for Medicine at Cam), and needing an A* in Chemistry which is arguably my trickiest subject right now, so I am devoting my life to it haha.

Would you say that kings college is a nice college? Since they are providing free tutors ?

thank you! i applied with 3A*’s and 9999887777 at GCSE; don’t worry about your mocks, your sixth form will likely use other things such as gcse’s to gage your predicted grades. for the lnat, id say to give yourself enough time, start preparing mid summer, maybe from the start of august, and i used Arbitio as my main source of revision (even though you can’t really revise), and although i had to pay for it, i think it is really helpful if you care about being organised as they track your results, as well as giving in depth explanations into each question. as aforementioned, you can’t necessarily revise for the LNAT, but i would recommend practicing as many practice papers as you can to improve your time management and ability to quickly pick out things from the text, and so you get used to the question styles as they are quite repetitive. as for the essay, id recommend just practicing writing from a list of lnat essay questions which are quite easy to search for, and although i didn’t, i know that some people prepare statistics for certain key ideas such as abortion, wealth inequality etc, but if you don’t do this you won’t be hindered, as i didn’t mention anything. i hope this was helpful, good luck!!!

In a similar boat! Best of luck with maths, your odds are looking great though; maths is a subject that definitely improves massively with practice.

20-2-25 : ive just got back from america (hence the inactivity) but im excited to restart this! recently i found out i got 27 on my lnat, which is good in hindsight but since the average cambridge offer holder usually gets a score around 29, the imposter syndrome is already settling in πŸ˜– but im gonna forget about it as i still have an offer so who cares!! anyway, although its late im going to work on integration as well as parametric equations as i haven’t done them in a while so still feel a bit rusty.

β€’ i made updated anki flashcards for 2 chapters in my textbook for american history, wanted to do more but it was much more time consuming than i anticipated
β€’ plan to finish the madasmaths paper my tutor set me to complete for tuesday, safe to say im struggling - but practice makes perfect!
β€’ for tomorrow: wishful thinking, but want to finish making anki flashcards for section 3 of american history textbook, that way i’ll be 1/3 of the way through in just 2 days ! and i also need to finish an art outcome that i’ve already spent at least 15 hours on πŸ™ƒ

GCSEs all A*s (welsh). Two weeks in hospital. For work experience I’d say it’s less about what you do and more about using a couple of examples and reflecting well on them
