Pleas help me🩷

Um hey I’m 19 years old, and when I moved from Iran to the UK, I couldn’t finish my high school diploma. Now, I want to go to university, but before that, I need to take Access courses. To get into these courses, I need to have qualifications in language and mathematics.

However, I don’t want to spend a whole year just doing language and math courses. I want to join the Access courses as soon as possible. Is there a way I can get these language and math qualifications faster? Can the IELTS exam work, or do I have to complete the language and math courses first?

Also, can I go directly for the Functional Skills exams without taking the full courses to get the Access course qualifications?

Of course, you don't have to take any courses at all. You can just find a private exam center, come and take the exam. This way you will you will need to prepare for them on your own, but you can buy CGP books or workbooks and you'll be fine, they are not that difficult to pass especially when you're 19. GCSEs are going to be in May/June this year and you can still sign up, I don't know when the Functianal Skills exams are. Anyway, you need to check which qualifications do they exept as IELTS tests your English proficiency as a speaker of other language unlike FS of GCSE. Good luck!

Most universities have teams that are able to advise on alternative routes into university, both for international students and for those who weren't able to finish their secondary schooling. It could be worth identifying where you want to study and get in contact with them about the best next steps towards joining them, even if that's directing you towards where you may be able to get these English and maths qualifications.
It may also be worth getting in contact with the UKCISA who are an organisation that provide advice to international students looking to progress towards university in the UK: https://www.ukcisa.org.uk/

All the best with finding a route which works for you on this!
