Exam Timetable Discussion || Open to all years!

Hello everyone,

I'm a rather curious person and have been wondering about what you all think of your exam timetable. Are you happy with it? Do you feel your exams are too clumped together? Do you have a large gap in the middle of them? Were you affected by the changes to the timetable earlier this month - if so, are you happy with the changes?

To put it simply, I want all of your thoughts on your exam timetable. Positive or negative. S4, S5 or S6. Doesn't matter. My thoughts on my own timetable will also be in the replies.

Happy discussing, I suppose? I don't know how to end of a post, haha.

Overall, I'm not too bothered by my exam timetable. I'm in S5 and taking five Highers so it's much more spread over the exam diet in comparison to last year when I had more subjects. This is definitely better as my Highers are, as expected, more difficult than my Nat5s so having more time to revise as I have fewer subjects is good.

I was affected by the change to the timetable earlier this month though. This is where I'm a bit more unhappy. I am a Higher Computing Science student and my exam, along with the other Computing exams (Nat5 and AH), has been shifted to Friday the 25th of April. It was originally on the 15th or 16th of May - if I remember correctly - which would've been the same week as Maths but that wasn't an issue for me as Maths and Comp Sci are some of the subjects I do best in. The issue is that exam leave starts on Monday the 28th of April. I sit my Comp Sci exam the Friday before that. Yes, before exam leave begins. I'm not too miffed as, like I mentioned, Computing is one of the subjects I find easy - relative to my other subjects, of course - so as long as I revise decently during the Easter holidays I should be fine. I'm just annoyed that I have to sit an exam before exam leave. My school may give us the Thursday off because of it - or so my teacher has said - but it's still a bit annoying. Not a huge bother though.

I also have a large gap in the middle of exam leave where I have no exams. Last year I had an exam or two every week, except for the last week where I had no exams, whereas this year I have a week of no exams between my final two exams, Maths and Human Biology. Maths is on the 12th of May. Human Biology is on the 27th. I'd prefer it if they were a bit closer together because that's over two weeks of studying only for Human Biology and I probably wouldn't need that much time but I suppose I should be grateful that they're not on consecutive days or something.

I believe the date for Computing was changed to the 25th of April because originally Maths, Physics, and Computing were all in the same week. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the timetable, just sucks a little that computing is so early. (Taking Highers in Maths, English, Physics, Computing, and Business)

Yeah I'm in s4 taking national 5’s in maths physics and computing which were back to back (maths Wednesday, physics Thursday and computing Friday). Honestly, I’m actually really grateful that computing has been moved forward as for I too computing is one of my easier subjects, and I would not have prioritised it at all if maths or physics were before it as originally planned. Yes, having no study leave prior to the exam is annoying but for me personally I think the change is a positive one for me!

Ooft. Maths, physics and computing back to back - even just in the same week - is rough. I'm glad the change is helping you guys. I think I'd be so relieved if I was in you positions, haha.

I'm not happy with the changes they made to the timetable. Originally I had a week gap between each exam except maths and physics but now due to the the changes I have maths on Wednesday, physics on Thursday and engineering science on Friday.
Also my maths teacher is saying that if I wanted to I could do the N5 apps as I did well in the N5 maths prelim but I can't really do that as it's on the morning of the engineering science prelim.

Hi, I am doing AH Maths, Physics and Graphics and Higher Computer science and English, and before the date changes, I would have had maths, physics and computer science all in the same week, so I am very pleased with these changes

Not liking the SQA they changed my Higher Accounting Exam from the 29th to the 13th of May (One Day after Maths). I'll probably be able to manage it since last year my Admin and Maths were the day after eachother and I still got top marks but I'm going to have to change around my study timetable quite a bit 😔.

Not great, im s5 doing 5 higher 2 advh mostly spread out except i've got higher english and maths of mechanics on the same day (6 hours of exams with 30 min break between end of english 2nd paper and start of mechanics). I was excited when i found out timetable change only to discover english and mechanics hadn't moved (in fact none of my subjects had changed). If it wasn't for the 2 on the same day i would have said the timetable was good

I'm doing higher English and higher Psych. They were both on the same day before the change, this would have been awful if it wasn't changed. Two exams on one day is bad anyway but they're both essay based (which I'm not good at anyway) where you are writing constantly for the full exam. Luckily it was complained about enough that they moved psychology in the changes. It's now at the very start of the exam diet which I'm not thrilled about but wayyy better than before at least.
