MA Animation UWE application advice

Hi everyone, I'm looking to apply for the MA in Animation at UWE and hoping for some advice on the process. I did a BA in Journalism so I don't have formal arts qualifications but I've always been highly creative and artistic in various ways which I hope I'll be able to show through my portfolio (I also did Art at higher level in IB). I'm hoping to finally take the leap and follow my passion of studying in the arts but I don't have the money to do another bachelor which would also be quite time consuming.

Does anyone have any experience in the application process and portfolio advice for this or other Animation MAs? The course page says they welcome applicants from any background committed to creative growth but I'm also aware that Animation at UWE is competitive so would I even be considered without an arts BA?

I would also really appreciate any insight from anybody who has entered an animation course from a different previous educational background and what your experience was like.

Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you

I can't speak to the specifics of the admission process, but as someone who has been working in the animation industry since 2018 - an MA degree can be beneficial, but your portfolio is what matters most.

Also - what type of animation are you interested in? Something more experimental, hand-drawn, or 3D-focused?

Thanks for your reply! It definitely makes sense that portfolio is what matters most, I'm concerned I don't have enough animation specific work to show in my portfolio to apply for the course. My hope is of course to gain those technical skills through the degree. And I'm most interested in 3D animation!
