Dwp Disability services - Case manager

Hi, Can anyone currently working within the DWP as a disability case manager tell me what it is like to work as a case manager and how flexible is the role.

Disability services case manager is a PIP decision maker. I never worked in PIP but I know someone who does and they hate it because they sometimes receive inbound calls. If you don’t like dealing with vulnerable people over the phone then you’re going to hate pip.

I applied for disability services couple years ago but I got lucky I got placed in UC as a decision maker. If the job advert says case manager then it’s most likely PIP. If you do end up in UC it’s way better because you don’t get inbound calls, but the decisions are harder.

You’ll be making decisions everyday, I think PIP is around 8 decisions per day after you’re fully trained. Around 8 decisions per day is the target. Other decision types might have lower or higher targets depending on how hard or easy the decision is. Harder decisions have lower targets because they take longer to work on. You’ll review evidence submitted by the claimant and also sometimes look at regulations to make sure your decision is in line with them. You might also need to call the claimant if you need further information. PIP is more deciding if they’re eligible based on the assessment report and follow up questions. UC there’s more investigating involved.
