Sfe funding for 6 years

Hi, I had a question about Sfe founding for 6 years.

So basically unfortunately I didn’t do very well on my a levels so I couldn’t get into my firm uni and ended up going to my insurance in a foundation year with a degree but I absolutely hate the university and it has really effected my mental and my health has not been great and I have to go through a surgery so I was am enable to be fully present at uni and I am not doing my best so I applied to another university for the same course but because of my grades I was offered the degree but with a foundation year too and I have excepted the offer because it’s a way better university then my current university but I am worried about the Sfe funding because I have already used Sfe founding for this year so I have only 4 years of founding left but my course at the new university will be 5 years including the foundation year which means I am short by 1 year of funding but I recently heard about the CPR form and I was wondering how would that work and how will all the funding work? So how will it work because my course at the next university is 5 years long with the foundation year?

Hi there, Can you please confirm the exact title of the new course? Is this a Full Time or Part Time course? How many years of previous study do you have in total? When does this new course start? As for CPR, if you could not complete your course year due to a compelling personal reason, you may be able to receive an additional year of funding if you are able to provide acceptable evidence of this. Where applicable, we recommend the evidence is signed and dated and confirms the reason why you could not continue with your studies and when this took place (must be date specific). We can accept photocopies of medical evidence from a GP on headed paper, letters from your university on headed paper, letters from Social Services, clergy or professional person on headed paper and copies of a death certificates and/or a birth certificates. This list is not exhaustive and any evidence that may help your claim for Compelling Personal Reasons (CPR) should be sent to us for consideration. Thanks, Stephen.

It’s a full time course and the name is introduction to optometry at city university. It is my first year at university and I am doing a foundation year. I am still going to the university but I have not been able to attend university properly because of my health and it has been affected my mental health which is why I have decided to not continue with the course and change universities but I am worried about the founding because my degree at the next university is 5 years and I have already used one year of founding so how will that work? I will apply for the CPR form. But can you tell me how will I apply for the Sfe this year? Do i apply for my next university and fill the cpr form when applying?

Hi there, is it just one year you've studied previously since leaving further education? Thanks, Jason

Yes I am currently in a foundation year but I will be dropping out. So yes only one year.

Hi there,

You’re entitled to funding for the length of your course, plus 1 additional year, minus any years of previous study you have. Here’s the calculation we used: 5+1-1=5 years funding left and this would cover your course.

Thanks, Drew

Hi Drew,

Thanks for your clarification. Just to confirm, since I still have five years of funding left, does that mean I can apply as normal for my next course, which is five years long, including the foundation year?

Do I still need to fill out a CPR form, or is that not necessary in this case?

Additionally, since this is a new university, should I apply as a new applicant or as an existing one? Could you clarify how that process will work?

Thanks.

Hi there,

You can still submit your Compelling Personal Reasons so you get your additional year of funding back in case you need to repeat a year. That would be up to you. In regards to apply for next year as it would be a new course at a new university I would apply as a new student.

Thanks, Drew
