It's funny how a day can be a festival of rampant consumerism, yet a festival of annoying religious evangelicism, simultaneously.
well at least its fun.. shoping and making your friends happy..but is it just waste of time to try to convince ppl that Christmas (and Valentine's Day too) is about some important values than just basic consumption and business issue??

Valentines day should be a day for single people to seek out love. What it is is a commercialised card-day that saps romance out of already current relationships.

On a student forum, you are likely to meet a lot of very cynical people. So you've got a hard job persuading them.

I suppose that if they didn't mean something, then no-one would buy anything!

well i am sure they mean something but the the major part of it is that ppl are happy thay have holidays and can buy and get presents..

hm so far most ppl think that Valentine's day is both a day of love AND wastefully spending money..does it indicate that money is directly connected with love??

do you know what made me look like this :eek: ? when i found out why is prostitution illegal..
not because it's kind of immoral or just because one should not do it..
but because these prostitutes dont pay taxes from the money they earn..
it made me actually a little bit upset

spot on - if you need flowers and cards to know someone loves you then you need a serious injection of self esteem
