A-Levels for social anthropology

Social Anthropology is one of the subjects I’m wondering about doing at university, although I’m not sure about which a levels to take for it. Most places say there’s no specific requirements, and some say there’s like general suggestions.
I haven’t chosen yet officially, but my choice so far are:
-English Literature
-English Language
-French
-Classics
Do I need to take biology in order to study social anthropology? Do I need sociology? Would Geography be more useful? I’m not sure I would take a science, rather just not do this degree, but what I’m really interested in is Linguistics and social anthropology, rather than the biological side of it. My school requires 4 alevels to start but I could then drop one; which would be best to drop? Feel like this makes no sense but if anyone has any advice?

A social science might be useful for subject awareness but clearly isnt essential.
Its more important that you choose 3 subjects that you will enjoy studying, and where you feel confident of good grades.

Hi Millyrosea,

Some useful A-levels to study social anthropology would be:

Geography

Sociology

History

English Language & Literature.

Psychology

I took a look at the University of Manchester's site which have a list of A levels they would expect applicants to have:
https://www.manchester.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/2025/00676/bsocsc-social-anthropology/entry-requirements/#:~:text=Applicants%20must%20be%20studying%20at,Language%3B%20English%20Literature%3B%20Geography%3B

Taking a deeper look into your subject of choice, I would say that Classics or French may be one to drop.

Hope this helps.
