Millennium Performing Arts

I'm struggling to find any info about this Millennium Uni. What is the audition process like? I am a singer/actor, I can dance but it's not my strongest feature. Is this somewhere I should consider applying to for 26 entry? How many dance classes do they offer a week? I'm looking for a school that doesn't do too many classes but enough that I can improve. Any advice, reviews etc would be much appreciated! Thank you

Hi, my DC auditioned this year and here’s what I have learnt

It’s a small, very friendly school. When we went for the audition day they remembered us from the open day! I get the feeling that they nurture their students more than in some of the bigger schools. They’re a CDMT Accredited school (along with the likes of Urdang, Laine, etc), so I’m guessing that’s a good thing!

Nice location (near Baker Street / Marylebone). Classes are held in various locations including a converted church hall across the road.

The audition was in person from 10-4pm. DC needed to prepare a song and monologue but the dance part was made up of ballet and jazz workshops - so no solo to prepare.

Millennium is currently revamping their website which is good as it was pretty awful. But they have FB, X, and Insta. I think maybe their marketing is the reason no-one seems to know about them but hopefully that is about to change with the launch of their new website?

Alumni - did a tiny bit of research and one has been cast in the new Disney show “Hercules” and another now teaches at Performers. There are others too in shows in the west end but I can’t remember the details right now but I think it’s all on FB. To me, the ratio of those that find success in the industry seems on track for a small school.

I think Millennium is regarded as quite dancey which suits DC (although DC’s opinion was that it wasn’t *particularly* dancey).

Classes for first years in a typical week include around 10 hours of dance (ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary). And then there’s singing/musicianship for 2.5 hours, acting 3.5 hours, performance 3 hours, lectures/tutorials 4 hours, physical man 2.5.hours.

I think that’s about all I know!

Around 5 -10 years ago Millennium had a poor reputation. They had a couple of bad OFSTED reports for their Level 6 diploma provision and as a result lost the funding for that course. They also failed to satisfy one of the requirements for their degree accreditation and lost that (This was around 2019 ish).

They have since got degree accreditation from another university. I havn't really heard much about them since so I don't know their current standards/reputation.

That doesn’t sound good - didn’t know about that!

This was all happening around 2016 - 2020. A lot may have changed since then. But it explains why the college fell off a lot of peoples radars.

My DD is currently a 2nd year at Millennium. It is a small college but has an excellent faculty and very comprehensive training. I was worried about the previous OFSTED/funding issues but they are now fully accredited by the University of Worcester. The website was appalling but is being revamped.

Don't expect the big flash studios that some schools offer but the quality of the teachers more than make up for it and being in central London is a real plus.

Their alumni are everywhere in the industry. Moulin Rouge, Hercules, Chorus Line to name just a few. They have amazing contacts throughout the industry and offer an intimate college where they know your name.

This was my DD 1st choice after auditioning at some of the larger colleges as she preferred the more personal feeling of the college. She is a singer who can dance and appreciates the mixture of training she receives. It is hard work and long hours but she loves it.

Good luck on your Musical Theatre training journey.

Thank you. This is reassuring. We have since heard that the teaching is excellent (from someone currently working in the industry) so it is good to see that this has been your DD’s experience too.

Initially my DC was looking at larger schools but it seems that there are many benefits to a smaller school. Millennium is now DC’s first choice.

Hi, my daughter is currently at Millenium and loves it. She wasn’t a dancer mainly singing and acting, but she has really embraced the dancing and has come on a long way, with loads of support. It’s small and personal, we went to watch a show at the weekend and all the staff really knew my daughter. She gets to work with people in the industry, so lots of different teaching. She auditioned at all the big drama schools, but I really feel she made the right decision. So far we are super impressed. They have acquired new premises now which look fantastic.

Hi… do you mind me asking about accommodation for the school? I guess it’s private rentals but is there a specific area the students favour please? Thank you

Congratulations! My DC went to see their show and she said the standard was incredible! She also met one of the directors/ lead teachers and said he was the loveliest of people and she had feedback from another student saying it was a nurturing environment

Hi, most apply for uni accommodation at Wembley Park. So Unite, IQ, fenders etc. My daughter has been really happy living there and they tend to travel in, in groups. If you are going there next year I’m sure they would be able to answer any questions you have. Let me know. H x

Hi, can I just check something with you please? I thought the location was around Marylebone but in google maps, it’s showing as Woolwich SE18. On their website it is Rudolf Steiner House; is this where the school Is based now please? I’m just sorting out her travel ☺️ x

It is based at Rudolph Steiner House. They moved there in 2022.
