Yeah, I got the same email. Pretty sure if you're contextual you qualify as an access + student. It should also show when you view your full offer on UCAS. Think it just means you're eligible for bursaries and different opportunities.
Hi,

Access Plus is a scheme which aids schools/colleges which typically fall into disadvantaged areas, or/and low statistics of students who go onto university. I was an Access Plus student and it simply means you are offered additional opportunities, in order to encourage and support students which may typically not go to university, based on their background. By no means does this mean your capabilities are any less, this is just simply based on location of your school/college, and their statistics from the previous years. Definitely use it to your advantage, as some great opportunities can arise from it.

I hope this answers your question, let me know if you have any other questions

Hi Faye,

So this usually means you can attend additional events, such as open days and also it has been common in the past that some peoples entry requirements will be lowered (course dependent), due to being part of the Access Plus scheme. You will also be able apply for a transition mentor, who will help you along the way with any worries or concerns and you may be entitled to a bursary. I will pop the link down below, for you to read a little more about it. I hope this helps

hi in my UCAS offer it mentions an alternative offer through access+ and I am unsure if they send put that on all offers and its an IF you quality here you go. Rather than a you ARE qualified for the access + entry requirements. I have not receives any email specifically from Sheffield about being part of access plus so I am confused

Hi!

Congratulations on your UCAS offer! You can check your eligibility for the Access+ scheme on our website here, where it details full eligibility info: https://sheffield.ac.uk/access-sheffield/plus/eligibility

If you have further questions relating to Access+ offers after reading the above, you can get in touch with the Access team via this email: [email protected]

It's hard for me to give course-specific information without more context, which course have you got an offer from please?🙂 Generally speaking, the University of Sheffield try to be as lenient as possible with grades (especially if you are from an Access+ background), and I have spoken to several people who were accepted with a grade or two lower than the original listed offer. That being said, of course it is all dependent on the cohort of applicants for the academic year that you are applying for.

You can ask the Admissions team for more info relating to the admission criteria for your specific course via phone call, online chat, or enquiry form. I've linked the contact details for these here. Some prospective students also find it helpful to talk to current students on the course that you have applied for via chat, and I have linked this here if it would be helpful for you😀.

Hope this helps! I am a student from an Access+/ Widening Participation background myself so if you have any more questions please do let me know and I'll get back to you!😊

Thank you so much for the quick response! The offer is for Economics Bachelor of Arts and thank you for mentioning the cohort side of things. Do you know if Sheffield went into clearing for economics last year?

Hiya!

2022,2023 and 2024 Clearing Information - Here you can find the information of all the courses that were available in Clearing over the past few years at Sheffield. As you can see in the 2024 spreadsheet, you can that there are Economics courses available, however the number of available spaces is unknown.

Hope that helps and do let me know if you have any other questions at Sheffield!
