Immigrant, payslip request maintenance loan

Hello, I was asked to provide my payslips in 28th of January, which I did the same day. Nine days later, I received an email asking for more proof, as I was working between 4-8 hours (I didn't know nor read anywhere that I needed to work a minimum of 10 hours a week). The reason I was working such low hours is that I work in uni as Student Learning Assistant and helping tutors and students during their classes. The person I was going to work with left for holiday and told me she'd be back in January. When I texted her in January, she said she wouldn't return until March due to maternity leave.

Before I received the email from SLC, I was already started looking for work (I have proof of the job application emails). Three days after SLC’s email, I found a job and am currently working around 20-25 hours a week. Additionally, I work 4 hours at the school, so I work around 24-29 hours a week in total.

However, I was asked to provide payslips from 01/09/2024 - 31/01/2025 and also my termination of employment from last year, and since I don’t have many hours, there is nothing I can provide except my p45 and last payslip from last year I'm not sure if I can share my current employment, but I don’t have any payslips yet as they pay monthly (I’ll get it on the 5th of March). I’ve asked my manager for a letter confirming my weekly hours and a copy of my contract.

Other than that, last year I only have a 2-month gap, which was after I finished my academic year I left London as I was staying in a student accommodation and had to leave.
But I found a job in my hometown and worked there during the summer until next academic year(I have payslips and p45)

What should I do? I have no idea and I’m really stressed.

Hi ersoyugur,

If you don't have evidence that has been requested, the best thing to do would be to write a cover letter to explain that 'gap' in employment for the assessors to review. Also include the letter from your new employer, p45 and then when you have your new payslip in March, you can upload those to your account for review and the assessors will let you know their decision.

Hi Clare, I have two more questions. I'm quite sure that my maintenance will be canceled as it's been more than three months of working below 10 hours a week. So my questions are:
1- When my maintenance loan is canceled, am I going to pay the previous year's maintenance + this year what I received so far, or just this year's maintenance? Can I pay it in installments? Because I cannot pay 8K at once (I have plan 5)
2- If my circumstances change (which they already have, I found a job and will be staying in London + will be working full time), can I apply for maintenance next year?

Hi there, the assessors will review this and determine your entitlement. You can apply again for this if your circumstances change. Thanks, Jason
