Philosophy & Psychology: Durham or Glasgow

My son has offers from both Glasgow and Durham to study Philosophy and Psychology. Wondering if anyone has experience with either university (and perhaps even this course) and could share their thoughts..
Hi there,

I'm afraid I can't speak for either of those courses personally but I did do psychology so know how hard it can be choosing between humanities courses.

I would firstly think about which course out of Glasgow's and Durham's you like better - which modules would you pick if you went to each one? Which ones inspire you most? Which would you feel more engaged with?

Glasgow and Durham are both strong unis for psychology and quite strong for philosophy too, and are both similar in the feel of the campus - both are old, castle-like unis which are quite large in size. Have you had the chance to visit them on open days? If so, where could you better visualise yourself? Could you see yourself living in one more happily than the other?

I would also consider the city size. Whilst Durham is quite a small city, Glasgow is huge and bustling. If you are able I'd definitely recommend taking a look at both cities, visiting and taking a look around to see what there is to do, do a bit of research on the cost of living and evaluate which you'd feel realistically happiest living in for 3-4 years.

Have you tried writing a Durham VS Glasgow pros and cons list? It may sound a bit basic, but it could be a very good way of organising your thoughts and seeing if one emerges as a clearer winner.

I hope some of this helps, best of luck with your choice!

This has also happened to us and my son cannot decide. We are going to the offer days to have another look.
