Hey guys, do you think the VR threshold for Warwick will go up or down?

I think VR had the smallest increase in the preliminary deciles vs last year, and hopefully it'll even out when the final ones come out. I guess either way it'll be the same or slightly higher like 10-20ish more

I am only guessing though

Ok it went up by 2 compared to last year the interim, so I don't think it will go that high to be honest. I really pray it stays 600.

Yeah you're right, and anecdotally I don't think people are getting crazy scores on it compared to something like QR

With those deciles being as high as they are, nothing would suprise me tbh. I just hope it won't be too high at this point.

Does anyone know when final UCAT percentile scores will be available?

I submitted mine a few days ago, it’s stressing me out thinking we have to wait for over a month to find out if we get invited for interview, my UCAT is quite low tbh but I’m hoping my work experience will help, how are you finding the application process so far? How did your UCAT go?

Ahh amazing! Yeah the wait will be agonising hahaha, luckily I have my master's thesis to defend in the meantime so all my stress and anxiety can go on that rather than GEM 😭

UCAT was good, I got 2260! The application process has been fairly simple I think? Interview prep is the part that is mystifying for me at the moment, I want to start in a week though. I just hope I get at least a couple interviews!

What's your work experience? I have the BSMS, then 40 hours in a care home doing personal care and shadowing nurses/MDT meetings, and then I will top off the hours with my job as a band 3 HCA in the hospital! I think it should be ok but some people have like 5 years as radiographers or PA's or something more impressive hahaha

Where did you apply?

Wow congrats on your UCAT that’s a really good score, that’s good, I have finished uni this year so I don’t really have much to do for now other than work and stress about this 😭 I will be starting interview prep next week too, are all unis you’re applying to doing MMI or also panel interviews?

For WE I have the BSMS (counts as 10h I think), 20h shadowing in a GP surgery (nurse,HCA, but mostly doctors + daily huddle meetings), got a decent reference letter for this one (as it’s just shadowing), and +100h working as HCA (I have worked in an inpatient unit for young people with EDs for about 2months and currently working in an ultrasound clinic since May), I have a great reference letter from my current job but unfortunately where I worked before as a HCA the reference letter only says my role, and start/end date as they closed the hospital so I couldn’t really ask anyone for a reference 😩 idk if it’ll still count

I’ve applied for Warwick, Chester, Worcester and Manchester (last one is very risky tbh with a low UCAT), where are you applying?

Thank you! How was your UCAT? I think Warwick is the only MMI in my list! I am looking at Swansea, Southampton and oxford, and I hope I stand a pretty good chance of 3 interviews! (I put oxford on because I have non traditional school leaver qualifications and they take them whereas many do not)

You should be good for WE then too! I think it shouldn't matter about the closed hospital, maybe you could call them when the questionnaires come out to confirm, but I saw on previous years' threads that some people used payslips and contracts to evidence their hours so I'm sure it's ok!

What are you gonna do for interview prep?

Does Warwick look at whether you have a 2:1 or a first? And do they place more weighting on a first than a 2:1? My friend is a 2nd year medical student at Warwick and she said a 2:1 or a first doesn't matter, but now I am seeing people on TSR saying a first class has better chances of an interview and I'm confused now. Warwick states interview selection is purely on UCAT score.

Good luck!! My UCAT was pretty low (1880) 620 VR Band 1, I only had 2 weeks to prepare for it due to personal reasons so it is what it is, Ik I would have done a lot better if I had more time

For interview prep I think I’m going to use resources provided by medify and definitely will be looking for more things, I’m not 100% sure yet on how I’ll study for them, will start next weekend (for me it’s only Worcester that does panel interviews, the rest do MMI😭)

How will you prepare for interviews?

I thought it didn’t matter if it was 2:1 or 1st, but I heard someone saying that it does, at least to some extent (I’m not really sure on how their selection system works tho)

Reply 17

I believe it does but they wouldn't specify when I emailed them

Reply 18

So a first can compensate for a lower ucat score

Yeah I have always heard this too, but I did notice a subtle word change this year on their website, they now say they look at 'academic achievement' whatever that means, not sure if I'm reading into it too much tho and also so many people have got into Warwick with a 2:1
