The Student Room Group

The GYG of a loser daydreamer who desperately needs to lock in

Need this to help hold me accountable because i can never pay attention in school and study properly and am NOT good at school.
Anyways my mock igcse exams that'll give me my predicted grades are gonna start on like the 27th or 28th of February and these are my goals for that:

Physics: A*
Chemistry: A
English as a first language: A
Biology: B
Maths: B

I know it might seem like I'm aiming low (especially after seeing all the other gygs who are all aiming for straight As) but during my last school exams back in december i ended up having to retake my bio exam (for the bio retake i did manage an A* tho but I don't wanna get my hopes up and then not meet my goals and so I'm tryna be realistic) and maths one (which is my worst subject) so tbh I'll be happy as long as i get at least a C in maths.
I'm really good at english so i wanna say I'm aiming for an A* but the issue is the english as a first language marking scheme is really subjective like i never understand how to get good grades in the writing your own narrative or description story and also I'm dyslexic so I'm just a really slow reader and writer but the school refuses to give me extra exam time on any exams bcz of my learning disability bcz they say my diagnosis is old(even tho i cant suddenly not be dyslexic).
I got like a B in physics which was honestly really disappointing because i really like physics.
I didn't do that well in my chemistry exam either, like i barely passed. But after that i started doing a lot more chemistry and have done ALOT of work and even my teacher says she's expecting an A* in chemistry as my predicted grade but i dont wanna get my hopes up and be egotistical so I'm hoping for an A.
Anyways hopefully I'll update this daily!

Welcome to gyg and best of luck with your studies 🙂
Sorry to hear your school aren’t being supportive with your condition. Are you in the uk or elsewhere?
Whats your favourite subject? What plans do you have for the future- a career/degree/what you wanna do after GCSEs?

Currently outside the uk but I plan on going back to england, where i was born and mostly raised, for sixth form. I don't really have a favourite subject tbh, used to be biology because it was easy (and then i started to not study because it was that easy and then my grade dropped). I really really want to be a psychiatrist back in england. Not because being a doctor makes alot of money or because my parents are making me (which is why most people where i live are planning on doing medicine) but because I'm genuinely interested in psychology and want to help people with their mental health.

Cool! The reason I asked bout whether youre in the UK is because in the UK theres lots of rules about exam support and if you were in the UK you’d be able to get extra time without a diagnosis (even though you have one that your school wont accept). Sadly i dont know anything about exam support in other countries so i really hope it gets sorted for you but you can rest assured that if you come back to the uk you’ll probably get extra time in sixth form seen as you need it 🙂
Biology is my favourite subject- hopefully it gets easier for you because it is truly fascinating!
That’s such an amazing career goal. I wish you the best of luck with it!
16/2 Spent an 2 and a half hours studying maths specifically statistics and did alot of past paper questions on it, it's a topic I've been putting off but so far I'm doing good at it. Spent half an hour doing chemistry past paper questions about reversible reactions and equilibrium which is a topic i find pretty complicated. Spent an hour and a half doing physics alternative to practical questions which is good because ive barely done any practise in any of the ATP past papers and need to do more.

Ty
16/2 Didnt study as much as i wanted to today but i finished the doing all the enzyme questions in my bio past paper book. Also did some statistics past paper questions in maths for like an hour and spent some time doing physics past paper questions on the topic electrical circuits.
Didn't go to school today bcz i had a doctors appointment. Spent an hour doing statistics past papers again and an hour doing physics electromagnetic effects past paper questions.
well done on all the physics and maths you’ve been doing! Hope all your hard work pays off 🙂

Thanks, i hope it pays off too
Spent 2 hrs in maths past papers doing probability and statistics questions (I've only got 2 or 3 questions till I've finished statistics so yay). At school we did like an hr of chemistry practical stuff which was new bcz our whole class is doing atp bcz practical igcse exams aren't offered where i live bcz of the lack of resources n stuff. Anyways also did an hr of chem past papers mainly polymer questions which i suck at. Did 2 hours of bio, made flashcards and revised other flashcards I've already made, tried blurting as a study method for the first time and omg it works sooo well for me

Welcome to GYG!
Did more math past papers questions abt algebra and started inequality questions. Finished the chemistry reversible reactions and equilibrium past paper chapter which means i have like 5 or 6 topics left in my past paper book that aren't fully done. Did an hr of bio reading n blurting.
