Hello,
I am assuming that you are in year 12/first year of A Levels or the equivalent. In this case, you should demonstrate your interest in the subject by going above and beyond your studies and making use of various extra-curricular activities. One really good thing you could do which I would highly recommend is an Extended Project Qualification where you could look at a different area in Psychology. I did an EPQ in Leadership Psychology and not only was it highly interesting but the skills developed from an EPQ are really helpful for university education!

I hope this helps, if you have any further questions please do let me know!

Hey Anon! 🙂 Pleased to hear you're thinking of studying Psychology & Counselling with us! Would you be applying for 2026 entry? Are you a Scottish applicant or applying from further afield?

Generally throughout the application we'll look to see good evidence of research in to the course/profession, and to get to know how you've prepared for starting University. This can be in a range of ways - through studying a similar area, developing skills in extra curricular activities, or gaining work experience directly in a related field. Work experience isn't mandatory, however if you're able to get some sort of relevant experience this is useful for you as part of the research process (you could tutor younger years/volunteer in your community for example).

Have a think about why you want to study the course, and then consider what sorts of skills would help you succeed at University. Once you've thought of some essential skills, you can consider how you can build up some examples of how you've shown those skills 🙂

Hope this helps! Drop me a message if I can help with anything else.

Good luck!
