Okay. But why?

I had this idea that having a degree in science would benefit me if I ever wanted to program something. At one point I questioned myself "Do I want to work with games or meteorology? Do I want to work in the industry or the academia as a scientist?".

I strongly believe that in our modern time, people have access to knowledge and they can learn math or programming without attending to a prestigious college. I was much more narrow minded and could only see a career tied to a degree. Now I have a very different perspective.

For now I'm more interested in game design than in game programming.

how are you earning a living?

I am not earning anything. If adsense accepts my site, then there is some.

Were you expecting me to tell a story of how I became rich or something? I haven't even applied to any company yet. Nor I have tried to start a company on my own.

I didn't make the wiki to advertise my success story. I made it to learn and share some writing and use it as a resource for future endeavours.

So not much of a success story then?

That's really rude

No, just not really seeing the purpose of bragging about dropping out of college if it hasn't resulted in you doing something else productive with your life.

Yeah but he has a point. I finished college, i’m on a gap year rn applying to med. And honestly i’ve realised how much more there is to life than just academics? You’re asking him about his income to measure his happiness…icl that seems a bit shallow but my friend works at starbucks and her manager was homeless at 15, had an abortion, obviously didn’t go college, and now she’s 20 something and earning more than a lot of people who finish college and get degrees! Yeah finishing college opens up sm pathways and I would advise everybody to have a degree as a backup” . But if this guy is happy rn and has got the funds to care for himself who cares. I didn’t really perceive it as bragging but maybe i’m wrong!

That's the point. There is a famous math teacher in my country that has a PhD. However, he says that what really mattered in his life and career was his record of 50k hours in teaching in schools all over the country.

If college doesn't matter, why bother mentioning it at all?

Never said college doesn’t matter! But college or Uni isn’t for everyone! As somebody that has gone to college and will definitely go to uni next year if I get my med offers, the education system is VERY flawed and I’ve struggled more than I should have due to my undiagnosed adhd ( got diagnosed last month) and many people also struggle due to sm other issues. The education system is not catered to our needs at all, but it is obviously still possible to succeed despite that( just 100x mroe exasperating thsn the average person). And I will always advise ppl to get an education but I would also never talk down to people who choose not to go down that path? Or judge them for it? You can be successful and not go to college or uni, it really isn’t the end of the world. I don’t understand why you’re so offended by it?
