oxford application for 2026 entry

i got rejected from oxford for 2025 entry. does it make sense if i reapply this year for 2026 undergraduate entry?
It depends - we need more context. What course did you apply for? Are you on a gap year right now? Why do you want to apply for Oxford? What are your grades/preds?

i applied for history and economics (i didn't study history in high school because my school did not offer the subject combination i wanted), i'm currently in my last year of high school, i'll give my finals in March of this year. pretty standard answer, but oxford is my dream school, and i wanted to go there for my undergraduate studies. my grades are in the 95 to 100 range in all subjects except for math, where i hover around a 90-93

so what i am getting is that you are taking Economics, Maths and one other subject, and want to apply to History and Economics? I don't think you should risk applying to a course without one of the most crucial subjects you absolutely have had to study to apply; history. Maybe contact Oxford's admissions team and explain your circumstances, but I think this may hinder your application.. And why did you apply in 2025? Are you sitting A-Levels or IB or another qualification?

i applied for 2025 entry because i'll be graduating in the april of 2025 from school, and i'm an indian student, so i'll be giving the CBSE board examinations, which is the central board of secondary education in india, and i understand your point about history. so i think i'll forego applying again. maybe i'll consider it in postgrad??

Considering it in postgrad is most likely the best option here 🙂 Good luck on your exams

You should reapply next year, especially since there will be a new format for the UCAS application form and this time choose PPE. Also, select a different college at Oxford as well as the top London colleges: LSE, UCL and KCL and Warwick has a fantastic campus. PPE will be suited to you, since you have Maths and Economics. 🙂

thanks so much, do you think that interacting with philosophy and politics over the summer break will strengthen my application?

You are asking the TSR equivalent of Jude The Obscure.

Don't be swayed by wannabes who live vicariously and have never applied to university. Decide what is best for you. That might be studying at a university other than Oxford.

i understand what you're saying, and i definitely don't consider oxford to be the be-all and end-all. it's something i'm considering given that i haven't receieved decisions from any of the other unis i've applied to, and i would like to try again if my application is not successful anywhere. my decsion to reapply is most definitely contigent on other uni decisions as well.

No. Because UK universities have the UCAS application form and all grades must be declared. If you're already at a university, then they will reject your application. So, you're best advised to take a gap year. Especially if you score 95-100 in all your exams and 90+ in Maths. You will also need a high score on the TSA test for PPE. 🙂
If you don’t want to take a gap year, just move on with your life and consider Oxford for a Masters. There really isn’t any point taking a gap year you don’t want on the off-chance that things will be different round. Think how you would feel next January if you were to be rejected and then face the rest of a gap year you resented taking.
