uni of sheffield accommodation?

Hi there, I’m hoping to go to uni of Sheffield in September and have recently started looking at their accommodation. I’m planning to study Speech and Language Therapy, so preferably I would like my accommodation to be in the area of the medical school. Does anyone have any experience/advice on where is best to live or where to avoid? Also, does anyone have any idea when the bookings open for accommodation? Thank you!

Hii, i'm also hoping to go to uni of Sheffield to study Chem Engineering, I know that self selection for accomodation opens in March and the most popular accom is the Ranmoor/Endcliffe accom which isnt that far from the actual uni but i'm not actually sure how far the medical school is. But there is more city area accom like Allens court. I'm sure if you went on the uni youtube account they would have some videos on the different types of accom.

I’ve looked online at the accommodation that they offer, and I’m either thinking Ranmoore/Endcliffe or booking uni accommodation through a different website (they seem to be a lot more modern). I’m not sure on Allen Court as I know someone who has lived there previously and there was something wrong with the water system and their whole flat flooded :/ What accommodation are you looking at? Thanks for your help!

I am also thinking Ranmoor/Endcliffe, more specifically Ranmoor as I saw it at an open day and it looked nice

hey, do you know for sure if the SLT department is actually in the medical school / if lectures etc. are most likely held nearby that building? i’m also unsure on what accom to choose, but i’m doing the masters version of speech and language therapy.

Hiya,

In terms of the main student areas, there is Ranmoor and Endcliffe which are 5 minutes away from each other and are roughly 20 minutes to the medical school. Allen Court is a smaller accommodation for students, but there are still plenty of students and it is situated in the city centre. This is also a 20 minutes walk.

When I was in my first year, I stayed in Allen Court as I preferred its location and conveniency. Some people may say that you it lacks a social experience, but I preferred it as I could pick if I wanted a quiet night or wanted to go out with people whereas in Endcliffe, it is more of a social scene. Either way, I am sure you will enjoy yourself in either accom and if you are not, then you can speak to accommodation services and then you switch your rooms to a different flat or a different location.

Hope that helps and let me know if you have any questions!

What is the best accom to pick if you’re studying biomedical engineering. Also, how diverse are accoms such as endcliff/ranmore
Hiya,

The preference of accom is up to you - if it is convenience, Allen Court would be better but more of a typical student life experience, Ranmoor and Endcliffe would be better due to there being more students there. However, your social life is what you make of it so do not worry about feeling left out or isolated if you do stay in Allen Court as there are plenty of society events to join in. In terms of diversity, there are options like women-only rooms, LGBT+, quiet flats and more. You can also pick the exact room you want to stay in so people normally add bios about themselves like their subjects, interests and hobbies to get to know people together.

Hope that helps and let me know if there is anything else I could help you with
