Lancaster University

Hello,

I am thinking of placing my firm choice at Lancaster University for International Relations, are there any current students who can tell me what it is like in this course? I am an international student and was also wondering how easy it is to connect with people at this University because I do not know many people living in the UK.

hi. i do international relations at lancaster and i love it. it is explained well and the staff are good. i do feel supported in the course.

i am not an international student but there are many international students and clubs specifically for international students and everyone seems to have friends. basically there are many many opportunities to connect with fellow international students and the campus helps.

Lancaster is a smaller Uni so easier to make friends - and its in a beautiful historic town.

Thank you for answering! I will talk with my college adviser but I definitely feel more confident about selecting Lancaster!

Hello @Viviennek30

Im glad to hear that you want to study at Lancaster! Although I am not an international student and nor do I study International Relations, I just wanted to reassure you that there will be many opportunities to meet new people. At Lancaster we have over 175 clubs and societies meaning that there is guaranteed to be something for you, whether this is something you already have an interest in or a new club you want to try out. You will meet plenty of people in your college, accommodation, lectures, seminars, etc.

There is usually an International Buddy Scheme that your college should run, meaning that if you opt into the scheme you will be paired with a student here at Lancaster who you can meet with and ask any questions during your first few months at Lancaster.

If you have any further questions please feel free to ask!
Taylor (Lancaster Uni Student Ambassador).
Hi @Viviennek30

Not doing IR, I have a flatmate taking it and she's been enjoying it so far. Many students are new to Lancaster and looking to make new friends. As Taylor said, we have the International Buddy scheme and many societies. We also have Friends International (link here) who run dinners/outings - the specifics of which can be found via their social media. I do think people here are friendly and outgoing, you can connect with people in your flat, your course, societies etc. so I would not worry too much about making friends.

The best of wishes to you, I hope you'll enjoy Lancaster Uni as much as I have these years if you do come here!
