Hi there,

Good luck on starting university soon! You will have a great time.

University is a really fun time and a great opportunity to make lots of friends and have fun alongside studying something that you are really interested in. I thought I could give you some tips and advice that helped me before starting university as some of these might help you too!

Before you start, have a look on social media and see if there are any groups that you can join for your uni, your course or your accommodation. These can be good for making friends so it is worth having a look and seeing if you meet anybody by doing this!

Try and set a budget before you come to uni. Work out how much you will have per week from your loans and job (if you have one) and then see how much you will have left over after rent and bills. Work out how much you will need for food and any other commitments and then how much you have left! It's good to do this before you get caught up in uni life and end up spending all of your money straight away!

Attend all of your lectures and seminars. It sounds obvious but it can be easy to get caught up in missing them but it's good to go as this is the best place to learn and you also meet lots of people by doing this.

Have a look and see if there are any societies that you might want to join as these are great ways of meeting new people and making friends!

Try and stick to a routine as much as you can with going to uni, cooking etc!

I hope some of this helps,

Hello :rave:

Well, firstly good luck! Congratulations for starting university. You really won’t need luck though because going to university is a brilliant experience and one that I am sure you will really enjoy. When you first start, you will probably feel nervous, worried and apprehensive, which is totally normal, everyone does as it’s such a big thing to move away from home, meet new people on your course and live with new people who are all effectively strangers, but within a couple of weeks you will be totally settled and it will feel as if you have always lived there!

When you start, I’d really recommend going to as many of the new starting students events that you can, join in with as much as possible as this is a brilliant opportunity to meet people and make friends. Don’t hide yourself away in your room, the more you can be involved in the better. Have a look at the student union clubs and societies and join all those that you’re interested in as this is a great way to meet like minded people and make even more friends.

Does the university organise any social media groups for new students to meet each other before starting? It might be worth looking into this for your course, as that way you will already know your classmates before starting.

Above all, enjoy it and have a great time,
