Tuition fees for UAL post-alevel art and design foundation course.

Hi, I am not sure whether or not my son will pay fees for a one year course at Brighton MET - UAL foundation art and design. He will be 19 at the end of September 2025 and if he is successful at interview (tomorrow!), will start at the beginning of September 2025 so he will still be 18 for a few weeks! He is currently studying A levels so will have L3 qualifications before he starts. Any ideas?
Thank you.

UAL FAD courses are FE.

Fee eligibility is based on age as at 1 September prior to the start of the course (normally). If he will be 18 at the start of the course then he should not have to pay a tuition fee (though may have to pay a materials fee).

FE courses aren’t eligible for maintenance loans. But he may be eligible for a bursary and/free school meals depending upon household income.

Funding for FAD courses comes from DfE/ESFA and not student finance England (unless a student is 19+ and eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan for tuition fees)
